We woke up about four A.M the next morning. Martha led us all to the village water source with six massive water pouches each- four each for us and two each for our horses. We had our baths, dressed up and fed our horses. The king and almost all the villagers waited for us at the gate leaving the village. They kept cheering, the women put crowns of flowers on our heads and kissed our cheeks. The king walked up to each of us and placed gifts in our hands individually. When he got to my turn, He whispered
"Unlock your gifts Michela." I looked at him, eyebrows up in curiosity.
He gave me a comforting squeeze before moving to August. I looked at the gift which lay in my hands; it was a small wooden sculpture of a dragon.
We got on our horses, and rode away, waving back at the villagers. We passed through a path among bushes. I rode my horse near Cornelius.
"Hey" I whispered.
"Hey" he whispered back looking around nervously.
"There's no need to be scared Nell... sorry Cornelius." I corrected myself with a cough after noticing his eyes had narrowed into slits.
"I just wanted to say thank you for, you know getting shot instead of me. ugh, I didn't mean it that way. I'm not happy you got shot. I'm just like..."
"Shhh. Michela it's fine. I understand you. Your welcome." He said smiling at me
"Thank you" I sighed.
After moving for about an hour, we came to face the valley laying below. It was so beautiful! I was expecting it to be all dried up and sad looking because of its former name.
"This is the most beautiful place I've seen in all my life" Cornelius exclaimed. We nodded our heads in agreement.
The valley was all green, with clusters of yellow, red, blue and purple all over indicating the presence of flowers.
"What is that?" August asked pointing at a patch of green
"A garden, I think..."
August sped off before anyone else, he was more enthusiastic than normal. We rode down from the hill we were.
"Calm down will you?!" Leon screamed after him. He ignored the advice as expected.
We came down gently from the hill, and rode to where August was. We watched as he entered the patch, and followed. We got to the entrance. Our suspicions were confirmed. Before us stood a garden, it looked like it was straight out of a fairytale. Fruits of different types hung proudly from their trees. I licked my lips.
"OH MY GOODNESS! THIS IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE I HAVE EVER SEEN!" Cornelius screamed while jumping off his horse and running into the garden.
Leon and the others got down from their horses and entered the garden. I watched as Martha looked at the garden in curiosity and awe.
"There's magic in this garden."
I turned to look at her with worry in my eyes.
"Not the dark kind." She assured.
we walked our horses into the garden.
"August! Cornelius! Where are you guys!" I screamed.
"Here" I heard Cornelius scream back.
We rounded a corner, and met August and Cornelius hungrily eating an unrecognizable but saliva inducing fruit.
