Hawkins, Indiana.
                  31st October, Halloween, 1984.

Tina's halloween party was the talk of the school.

It felt like everyone popular and relevant was going to be at the party. I had never been to something like that, i had never been invited.

I was sat in the library, my books sprawled across one of the tables as i studied. I had some exams coming up at the end of the year, and the library was the best place to study.

I got up to find a book, i needed it or else i was gonna fail this exam. As i walked through the library i scanned the shelves, above the door of a separate room was a sign that read 'English Lit.'.

Bingo.

Walking in, I was determined to find what i was looking for and of course,  my eyes were met with something else.

Inside was Steve and Nancy. They were stood facing each other, Steve leaning on the table and Nancy looking slightly upset.

They hadn't noticed me yet.

I knew it was wrong, i knew, but i didn't move. I turned so my ear was facing into the room.

"I can't keep doing this." Nancy muttered, looking Steve in the eye.

"Doing what?" He asked.

"Pretending like everything's okay." her eyes were still fixated on him.

"What are you talking about?" He sounded half serious but also as if he knew what her answer was going to be.

"Barbra! It's like everyone forgot, it's like nobody cares!" Her voice sounded desperate and her eyes began to dart around.

'Barb? Why have they been talking about Barb so much recently?' I thought.

"Except her parents, and now their selling the house and their going to spend the rest of their lives looking for someone they'll never find!" She almost pleaded.

"Nance, i..i know." Steve comforted her.

As if he cared.

"It's destroying them!" Her voice was wavering.

"I know, i get it but listen, there's nothing we can do about it" He responded, looking around as if he was checking no one was there.

"We could tell them the truth." She begged, looking into his eyes again.

The truth? What weren't they telling the police?

"You know that we can't do that." He stated.

"This isn't some game Nance, if they found out that we told any-" He paused looking at the door.

I stepped in, a cold look on my face, i didn't look at them and instead kept my eyes on the bookshelf ahead of me.

"What the hell are you doing Winters?" Steve asked, suddenly looking panicked at my sudden appearance.
