We pulled into Nancy's drive not long after.

The drive was painfully awkward, not a single word shared after my quiet 'thank you'.

Steve remained silent, his hands gripped tightly around the leather wheel, eyes trained on the road. He swiftly turned the car around the bendy roads to the Wheeler's house.

The car came to a halt and Steve's hand trailed down to the cup holder in between us. My eyes followed it as he grabbed the bouquet of red roses that i had failed to notice. Seconds later he was opening his door and exiting the vehicle without another word.

I sighed leaning my head against the window and felt relieved as my warm skin touched the cool glass. I tried to get more comfortable by pulling my legs up onto the chair but the tense atmosphere Steve left me in made it close to impossible.

Looking out across the opposite window I saw Steve stroll across the lawn. I rolled my eyes and tried to ignore him, just desperate for this to be over and for him to drive me home.

I tried to distract myself by shifting through his cassette collection. My mind started to wander and I couldn't help but shudder at the thought of what Billy might've done if Steve hadn't arrived.

The thought of him drew my gaze back out the window and to Nancy's lawn.

Steve stood awkwardly on the lawn, his hands flapping and gesturing to no one before he shook his head and started making his way towards the house again.

Had he been talking to himself? Practicing what to say? I laughed under my breath at the thought of Steve Harrington so nervous to talk to a girl.

It was very out of the ordinary.

He almost reached the porch before stopping and shifting on his feet, flowers held in a tight grip. I almost felt bad for him but shook it off , reminding myself of what happened between us the other night.

Just as he was about to reach for the door, someone emerged from the porch and began speaking to him.

Squinting my eyes I could tell i recognised them, but i couldn't work out where until i leaned across from my seat and got a clearer view of their face from over Steve's shoulder.

When i realised who it was my eyebrows furrowed deep in confusion.

It was the kid i bumped into in the halls the evening i saw Will Byers have an episode on the field.

I rolled my eyes at the thought of my journey being delayed any further by this random kid and was tempted to press the horn of Steve's car just to be petty.

However, they turned my way anyway when the boy grabbed the bouquet out of Steve's hands and began marching toward the car.

Steve shouted something and flung his arms up in the air, still stood in his same spot on the lawn. I could hear part of their conversation as the boy got closer to the car.

Suddenly, one of the back doors flung open, allowing me to hear the tail end of the conversation.

"Have you still got that bat?" The curly haired child asked as he rested his hand on the door.
