Miya Atsumu had what we can call a happy childhood. He never lacked love from his family. And he has a very particular and unique relationship with his brother, his twin, Osamu.Indeed, ever since they started talking and walking, they have done everything together. They have a strong bond that they both know could never have with anyone else, they complete each other, being each other's second half. Nevertheless, their personalities were quite different, we could easily differentiate them.
Atsumu was always energetic and loud, whereas Osamu tends more to be quiet and observant; unless he's pissed at Atsumu – which, unfortunately for him, happens a lot. It's as if Atsumu brings some sort of demonic side out of Osamu.
Just like almost every sibling relationship, they tend to bicker a lot, almost all the time in fact. They communicate only by yelling at each other and using mainly insults – to Suna's greater pleasure.
Suna Rintarou is their best friend since middle school, he managed to get close to both twins and seems to never have enough of their bickering. He even records most of their fights on his phone, staying behind and laughing is ass off at ever stupid things they can say to each other. Most of the time, Atsumu who would say something dumb and then get mad at Osamu for shutting him up.
"Ye're ugly Samu!"
"We literally have the same face ya scrub!"
Osamu was slightly more mature than his twin, and Atsumu knew it, even though he will never admit it out loud of course. One thing that made at least 70% of Atsumu's personality was his oversized ego; the other 30% were his flirty personality. As Osamu likes to say to him, he is "the biggest simp to ever live on earth".
Atsumu was kind of a playboy, he loved flirting with people – both men and women – without having any intention of going further. He has rarely been in a relationship. In fact, he had been only once, during high school, and he ended up having his heart broken. His partner for almost two years had told him that he was tired of how loud and energetic he was and that he couldn't live with it anymore.
It's not as if Atsumu was acting like this on purpose. Yes, the flirty comments were on his behalf, but not the rest. He always had to talk and move, that is how he was. Apart from his ex partner, only Osamu has seen how Atsumu is daily. He is indeed very energetic, it's like he's never out of battery. But that doesn't change anything to the fact that he is extremely sweet on the inside. As Osamu says, it's "take it or leave it", and that asshole of an ex didn't understand the assignment, he took him and then threw him away as if he was some kind of garbage. Got how he could hate him. Osamu knows that Atsumu struggles due to his personality -- even if, of course, Atsumu never said a word about it --, and that guy just stabbed him even deeper in his insecurities.
Atsumu never felt so bad in his entire life, and that's when he thought that, even if his partner could leave him after two years of relation, then anyone could. Anyone except Samu of course, but everyone else. Since then, he decided that he would never give his heart to someone ever again. He even asked Samu to kick him if he ever thinks that Atsumu is starting to fall in love. Atsumu still likes to flirt of course, but it's just for fun. Thus, he has hookups. And thanks to his looks, it would be a lie to say that he doesn't attract a lot of people.
Personality speaking, Atsumu was very extroverted and outgoing, he could easily speak with anyone and had a lot of friends. However, he had his own particular way of showing affection: physical touch, flirty comments – he had a strong passion for flirting with his friends, even more when they flirt back –, and annoying the shit out of them.
Osamu was almost the opposite, he was quite introverted until he was comfortable with people; he wasn't very flirty and blushed easily; he didn't hate physical touch but it wasn't as necessary to him as it was to Atsumu. He was, however, one of the principal targets of Atsumu's show of affection – this leading to the bickering between the two.
However, something that was very clear between the two of them was that no one else could insult them. They would take each other's defense without a single thought. Both of them knew that even though they never said anything about it.
Suna didn't care though. He didn't fear any of them, and because he was very good friends with the two, he sure took this opportunity to also make fun of them – especially with their idiot fights that they put on all the time for everything. It's as if they decided to make their whole lives a competition. Atsumu has, indeed, a very strong competitive spirit and is very proud.
Physically speaking, the twins were extremely similar, they had the same face and their height was almost similar, Atsumu was slightly smaller.
This led to a lot of unfortunate situations where they were mistaken for the other one. They even played with it as kids, trying to confuse their classmates. Only Suna was able to differentiate them, that's how they became friends.
Later on, the twins dyed their hair – Atsumu got blonde hair, and Osamu chose gray hair; both styled in an undercut.
At the end of highschool, they parted ways for the first time since their birth. They had always been together, at home as well as at school. Even when Atsumu started playing volleyball, Osamu was playing as well.
However, the thing that Atsumu didn't want to happen was the fact that Osamu didn't want to pursue a professional volleyball career. He knew that his brother had other ambitions and he would support him of course, that wasn't even a question. Still, it hurts.
First of all, they won't be at school together anymore – Atsumu pursues a career as a professional volleyball player by joining the MSBY Black Jackals, and Osamu wants to be a cook and open his own onigiri shop. And second of all, they won't even live together anymore because Atsumu has access to the MSBY dorms and so he has his own apartment situated a 10 minutes walk away from the gymnasium where he has his volleyball practices.

One year has passed since they left high school to pursue their professional careers and they are both surprised by how well it went. It was quite hard at the beginning, the change was quite radical but they ended up seeing each other each time they had some free time and they always had new things to tell the other. They even ended up less bickering – only less though, it didn't stop completely of course.
Osamu had now open his own shop called 'Onigiri Miya' and Atsumu couldn't be more proud of him – he even pressured everyone in his team to go and eat at his brother's restaurant, and threaten to beat them to death if they didn't say that they were the best onigiris they have ever had; something that he will of course never admit and will bury in his grave with him. He wouldn't want to feed his brother's ego.
As for the blonde twin, his first year at the MSBY went also really well. He ended up with Bokuto in his team and couldn't be happier – the grayed hair is as flirty and touchy as Atsumu is. They matched very quickly and became a loud chaotic duo, much to the despair of their teammates.

And here we are, the beginning of Atsumu's second year at the MSBY. The whole team gathered in the gymnasium to welcome two new recruits: Hinata Shoyou and Sakusa Kiyoomi. Atsumu is extremely excited to meet those two again and even more to have them in his team.
He played against Hinata's team during high school and was amazed by the little redhead's talent, he even promised him that he would set to him one day – needless to say how excited he is to finally make up for his promise.
As for Sakusa, he had met him a few times during some training camps when they were both in highschool – Sakusa being one of the top 3 aces in Japan and Atsumu the best high school setter. Needless to say that the setter in him is thrilled at the idea of him setting to Sakusa and winning more games.
And, apart from his volleyball talent, Atsumu also remembers that, even if didn't see him a lot, Sakusa was kinda hot.
