"I swear, it's like the night Emily came, everything went weird." Louis voice replayed in my head. But why me though? I'm not anything special. I should have known the first night that something was wrong.
I looked down the hall and saw that Louis and that Amelia chick were still talking, the girl's face had worry but interest written all over it.
No more waiting, I walked over to them and pretended like I wasn't listening to a word they said.
"Hey, Louis!" I yelled and both of their heads turned to look at me. Louis tried to hide his worry with a smile but I knew something was wrong.
"Emily! Hey!" He said with his voice slightly tremulous and unsteady. "What's up?"
"Oh, nothing.." I said. I looked to my left to see the girl Louis was talking to beaming at me. She was slightly shorter than me but she was very pretty. Her eyes searched my face hungrily like I was some kind of prey.
"Louis? Aren't you going to introduce us?" The girl finally spoke.
"What? Oh yeah!" Louis snapped out of his daze. "Amelia, this is Emily, Emily this is Amelia." He mumbled and scratched his neck.
"Nice to finally meet you, Emily." She smiled wider at me, the weird thing is... I could of sworn that her eyes started to water but she looked down before I could make sure.
And what does she mean by finally meet? Has she seen me before?
I smiled at her and Louis seemed to be growing paler and paler by the minute.
"Lou? You alright?" Amelia spoke to him softly and placed her small hand on his shoulder.
"Fine, I'm fine.." Louis swatted her hand away, she didn't seem to be affected it by it though. "I just need a nap...and maybe a glass of water." He ran one hand over his face and walked quickly toward the elevator, not looking back once.
Me and Amelia stood in silence not having anything to say to each other. God, I hate these types of conversations.
"I think I should go.. I have a lot of things to do." I said awkwardly to Amelia. She seemed to be in deep-thought.
"Hm? Oh... Yeah go ahead, I'll show myself around." She said quietly, it was obvious something was bothering her but I decided against pestering her.
I went the other way and decided to show myself around too, I mean, I've only been here one night and I've only seen 20% of this hotel. I really didn't feel like going by myself so I went to go find Niall.
I walked down to the check-in office and knocked on the door.
"Niall? Niall, it's me, Alex." I said and stopped knocking. I waited for a reply and stood in front of the door.
After several minutes, I decided that I should just go. I turned around and there stood a short, fat man with a balding head. I'm guessing that was Mr. Jean. The only thing that threw me off was his hallow eye sockets and dark rings under his eyes, I could tell something was wrong with him.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to bother you I was looking for my friend Niall..." I explained but all he did was stare at me with his cold, lifeless eyes.
"I think I'll go now." I turned away and began to walk quickly in the other direction.
"I need to pay..." He said in a deep, mumbled, raspy voice.
"Pardon me?"
"Pay...pay for my sins." He put his hand into his pocket and slowly pulled something out.
