HAVE SOME MERRY JOY!

HAPPY NEW VOTE!

Prompt: Something meaningful vs something expensive.

He didn't understand why she seemed so upset the Christmas before.

It was their Christmas together and he really did try his best to make it as special as possible.

Bought the best robotic lab for her to use and keep out in space. He spent as much money needed to make it the best of the best and earn a great deal of jealousy from others over it.

He didn't understand why she seemed so sad over such an expensive and glorious gift.

Nor did he understand why she seemed so hurt when he stood disappointed over the pretty and fancy looking hairbrush she had gifted him afterwards.

He knew he mentioned he needed a new brush for his silky hair but he was simply going to get another one for himself later on. He didn't understand why she seemed so proud and smiled so warmly when passing it over to him messily wrapped.

It was just a hairbrush that he mentioned needing at some point.

It was boring and cheap compared to all the money he spent for her own gift.

But Earth culture was always a little confusing to him anyway and he assumed he misunderstood something at the time.

Until they had reached earth and seen Sendak nasty work towards it.

Freeing her people and saving her planet and finding it to be the month before Christmas for them.

He stepped carefully when his beloved didn't seem overly excited or as happy as she did for the Christmas last year.

All the other paladins seemed overjoy and looking forward to a Christmas spent on earth with love ones and to have a normal hoilday once again.

All but herself.

He even offered to spend the Christmas day at the Garrison with some of the rebellion left camped on earth for now. He was happy to give her a day to her own family and make memories she's missed out for the past four years.

But she seemed even more unpleased over the offer for him to give her family some time together leaving him at a lost once again.

He truly wished that humans came with a guide book for other's to read whenever dealing with one.

Deciding to go earth style on the Christmas gifts this year, he strolled to the so called earth mall not far away. It was mostly destroyed but other humans had still opened up a few stores and market style shops.

Nothing looked overly expensive and glittery, making him wonder if he should give the Holt family bits of gold or even gain statues made of them on a planet. He had weeks to call for it to happen.

But he decided not to follow such a plan when overhearing the once Blue but now Red paladin complain to the always Yellow paladin over what to buy or get his handful of siblings for Christmas. How they've all grown since the last Christmas he spent on earth and how their likes and dislikes had changed. He couldn't think of any useful or heart warming gifts they'd admire and cherish like he could before.

The yellow paladin, the nice mother-hen lad that still jumped whenever he silently walked into a room and spooked him. Had reminded him that any gift from the heart or held any meaning would still be just as important.

Lotor thought over such strange advice.

Maybe that is why his beloved was so upset last Christmas.

He had spent money for her lab and left other's to build it for him. He didn't even build it to her style or link any of her charm to it. He simply got the best he could possible have for her and left it at that.

It was an excellent gift but it held no heart or honest meaningful touch to it.

It also explained her pouting over his own reaction to the hairbrush.

She had bought him something he truly needed and would cherish everyday but he had simply shown his distaste for something so cheap.

He must have been such a .. jerk, as the once Red but now Black Paladin likes to call him.

And deciding he'd test the yellow paladins theory, he left to Christmas shop early once again.

He had remembered the stories told over the Holt parents and sibling by his beloved many times over. They were important to her as her space family was .. as he was... is.

Her whole family was as loved as she was to him.

So, he tried the touchy feeling experience and preyed to any and all gods that his choices wouldn't be a failure.

And, the day to test such a theory finally came..

A/N:

And I purposely left the ending like that. I wasn't sure if I should give him the victory of getting the correct gifts for the Holt's.

(Like alien plant seeds for Colleen due to her green thumb. A scientist tool from space for Sam for him to carry on experience the scene in space. A dorky and pun filled top for Matt. And something meaningful for Pidge, like another none-evil drone.)

Or to have him fail once again and still not understand the whole meaningful touch to certain gifts. I'll leave it all to your own minds on an ending you like.
