Chapter 13

Damien's perspective
I sat at the bench weeping quietly to myself. Thankfully, no one else was here. I didn't want anyone to see me right now. I couldn't stop thinking about that dream I had. I saw his corpse at his funeral, but even that was nothing compared to how it looked before his body was recovered at the morgue. In the dream he looked much more damaged and mutilated. And the way he screamed in horror before made it ten times worse.

I wasn't paying attention to how much time had passed, and I heard the bell ring. I turned around to see if anyone was coming, and I saw Pip walking out the school. I quickly turned back around and wiped my tears with my sleeve.

"Hello, Damien. Do you mind if I join you?" I shook my head. I didn't mind, as long as it was him. He was the only person I felt like talking to at the moment. I watched as he sat beside me. I could tell he probably knew something was wrong. "What are you doing here?"

"I just wanted to check in on you. I hope that's okay" I stared at the concrete floor. Pip really was the kindest person I knew. I didn't deserve someone like him. "Thanks, but I'm fine. I told you I don't want you worrying about me" Hearing the words exit my lips, I realized they sounded more harsh than I meant them. Pip almost looked startled by my tone. If he was, he was trying to hide it. "Look, it was just a silly dream. I promise, it's nothing" I could tell that the tone of my voice wasn't very convincing.

"You just seemed so terrified. I was worried about you" I shook my head at this. I didn't understand why he was worrying about me. Did I really deserve to have him care about me so much? Nevertheless, it did mean a lot to me.

"You should be focusing on yourself. You're better off not caring about what's going on inside my head" I stood up and extended my hand out for Pip. He looked like he wanted to say something, but he didn't. Instead he just took my hand and stood up beside me. "Come on, let's get outta here"
