I chuckled as I scrolled down through the comment section of Archi's recent post on Instagram. The comments are not funny but it made my heart sing with delight for an unknown reason.
Sinulayapan ko si Archibal na nakatutok sa kanyang laptop sa paghahanap ng lugar na puwede naming puntahan bukas. Nasa hotel room niya kami ngayon at nakatambay sa veranda.
“What?” he asked as he glanced at my direction.
Hindi ko napansin na napatagal na pala ang pagkakatingin ko sa kanya. He looks really comfortable with his gray sweatshirt and sweat pants.
Pinatay ko ang cellphone ko at ibinaba sa coffee table. Humarap ako sa tanawin upang umiwas ng tingin sa kanya.
I moistened my dry lips. “It's really weird, right?”
“Huh?” Dumbfounded, he asked as his eyes narrowed.
“It's weird how we both become important to each other. Parang kahapon lang...” I started playing with my hands on my thighs. “... hindi pa natin kilala ang isa't isa.”
“Yeah...” A chuckle escaped from his lips. “And our first meeting was really weird and unexpected.”
“We were just supposed to hook up that night, but look at where it brought us now....” Natawa din ako at napakagat sa ibabang labi. “You flew from the Philippines to celebrate your birthday with me in Paris.”
He nooded while I was speaking with a smile on his face, as if he was reliving the moments we spend together.
“Kung hindi ba ako nalasing ng gabing iyon, may magbabago kaya? Kung hindi ko ba sinabi ang mga sinabi ko noon, magiging interesado ka bang kilalanin ako?”
“I don't know.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Kung hindi ka nga lasing, baka hindi mo ako pansinin. I was out of your league.”
“No, you're not! Who are you kidding here?” I gasped at what he said. Bahagyang nanlaki pa ang mata ko sa gulat. “I was a mess back then. Do you really think gugustuhin mo talaga akong makilala noon?”
