Time passed over the next few weeks. Irene learned when she was supposed to be getting ready for Alcina to feed off her blood, making sure to schedule a specific time and day for it. She began to memorize the hunger patterns and when that day came around she would be ready. And Irene hardly messed up anymore. It was beginning to not be as bad as it first was when she arrived at the large home. The other matter to consider into play here was the other three houses that were under Mother Miranda. When they would meet Irene would stay out of the way and watch their meetings from behind the door. Mother Miranda must have known by now that Lady Dimitrescu had some kind of new pet. Surprisingly not.
Yet...
Karl Heisenberg noticed every single time Irene was there to watch them meet up. He didn't like that she was still staying around and only for Alcina. The man didn't want this for someone as young as Irene, knowing eventually there would be a time Mother Miranda would use her for the plan. Guess it would be time that Heisenberg paid a visit to Irene in the Dimitrescu house. It was a day around her mistress' feeding time in the evening. Irene was getting herself ready and already had her sleeping clothes on, heating some heavy footsteps walk around the manor. Surely her mistress wasn't back so soon? Still Irene didn't hesitate to go out and greet her home, leaving the private bedroom to walk down the hall to the atrium.
"I'm surprised you're back so—." She stopped dead in her tracks, seeing Heisenberg standing there instead of Alcina. Irene couldn't say a word, frozen in her tracks and wondering if she should go back to the bedroom to hide. If she ran then he'd definitely chase after her and try to harm her possibly. Still here she was standing in her night clothes and nothing proper to wear in front of the man. "—Heisenberg..."
The man took a drag off his cigar and exhaled, looking at Irene as if she were a deer in headlights. His intention was different than what Irene had thought and only wanted to make sure she knew her options were open.
"Pardon the intrusion little lady. I was just stopping by to see how you were holding up." Karl asked while looking around and keeping an eye out for anyone who could interfere. Irene stood still and fished around for an answer.
"Fine thanks. I'm doing alright. I...well..." She had to think of something or he'd think her a liar. Then again why did she have to answer to this man? "That's besides the question. Why are you really here? If Alcina finds you in her home she'll—."
"What could Alcina do to me? Sure she could drain me dry but I'm fast. She thinks she's big and bad but in truth even she should know she ain't got shit on me, Irene. You can tell me what's going on. I'm not here to harm you." He moved in toward the red head, her body still unable to move. His eyes noticed her more than usual pale complexion. It looked unhealthy and Irene was definitely showing signs of previous blood loss. Heisenberg kept his anger in check and dragged on his cigar before speaking again. "Look sweetheart. She's killing you. It doesn't matter how many times you get your strength back...this is cruel to you. You're just a mere human being. At this rate you'll die."
"I'm not weak if that's what you're saying!"
"I'm saying that if you continue to let her do as she pleases and not get anything in return for it like proper care you're fucked!" He rose his voice to where it echoed in the whole place, leaving Irene shook a bit. "You will die eventually yes but you don't need to just throw your life away so early! I just want you to be able to live your life but if you stay here any longer it's gone."
Had she been throwing herself away because she wanted the love of another woman again? Irene didn't like to admit it but ever since her break up she wanted something similar. Now it seems she's just repeating the same pattern as she did with her ex girlfriend back home. She threw her life away for a woman who didn't give a shit. It was making sense what Heisenberg was saying: her mistress was just plain using her body to feed and not give her any proper time to recuperate. The man put the weapon he carried down and the cigar in his mouth, checking Irene around her waist for signs of malnutrition. Of course as soon as he felt her waist it was clear she wasn't getting proper food. Not to mention the blood being drained was another cause. She froze and wondered what he was doing until he sighed in frustration.
"Look. I understand you're trying to not get killed but this isn't the way. At least try to get her to agree to feeding once a week and not three. That way you can keep yourself alive. Your body won't last if you don't make some boundaries." Irene wanted to walk away from this crazy man but was caught by the arm in a gentle grasp. "At least try. Okay Irene? That's all I'll ask of you and I won't interfere anymore unless you're in immediate danger. Talk to her and compromise."
With that he let go of the red head and turned to leave. She held her arm against her and gave it some thought on the way back to the bedroom. While she headed back, Karl passed Alcina in the atrium and looked at her with anger. The tall woman couldn't help but sneer when he spoke quietly, "You make her suffer anymore...and I'll end you. She needs to live. Not be your blood servant." He left the home and the mistress was forced to make a decision.
As she walked into the bedroom, Irene was sitting at the edge of the bed thinking to herself. What Karl noticed about her body, it shook her to the core. She was underweight and sickly pale.
"I think we need to have a bit of a talk instead of the usual tonight."
Irene turned around at her mistress' voice. She knew those words were never good news. She didn't even hear her come into the room. Alcina sat on the bed beside slowly and didn't even look at Irene. Her voice didn't sound angry. It sound sad like she was regretting what she had done to the girl.
"I'm listening." Irene answered and turned herself around to face her mistress. "Look if it's about Heisenberg then he meant no harm to me. He was just—."
"I know and he has made a few good points. I don't think I've been fair to you. I didn't notice how sickly you were looking or anything. I was being selfish." Alcina took a deep breath and sighed, trying to keep her composure and trying to go by what her brother said to Irene a few moments ago. "I forget that you're only a human, Irene. And you are going to need to recuperate a bit for a while until you look healthier again. So I think we can compromise what you'll need versus what I'll need. Does that sound alright?"
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Was her mistress really trying to take care of her well-being first? Irene gave a nod and moved in closer, leaning on her arm. "I think that sounds alright." Alcina wrapped her arm around Irene and stroked her hair gently, kissing the top of her head before pulling her to lay down for the night. She wouldn't lose the only thing she had to a human connection and it taught her a little bit of patience.
