Mid October 2020
It took Irene a couple of weeks to get back to her normal weight but now she looked healthier. Her compromise with Lady Dimitrescu had started to work out. She would let her mistress feed once a week and Alcina agreed to be patient until she could properly recuperate. At meetings Mother Miranda held, Karl noticed Irene was beginning to look healthier again. He had no reason to go back to castle Dimitrescu unless it was to check on the girl. The seasons started to get colder and Alcina was able to find some warmer clothing for Irene to fit in. One day while cleaning up the room where she first found the pictures in the album, Irene looked around to find anything else that pertained to her mistress' past. The photos were the only clue and at some point she would have to ask her about the man in them. In some of the boxes she organized, there were letters between the two and Irene then got more curious to find out who this man was to Alcina.
It took a bit to go through some of the letters in that one box but one had caught her eye. It wasn't from a person but a hospital. Irene opened the envelope and inside were medical papers. Her eyes scanned through where the hospital was and what Alcina was checked for back in...the 1950s?! That was almost seventy years ago. Looking further down was information on blood work results and it determined that Alcina had a blood disease. Now she was curious. Just how old was her mistress really and why did she become who she was right now? Looking through the papers again and found her personal info which was listed up at the top of one of the papers. It read as follows:
•Alcina Dimitrescu
•44 years
•Female
•5'9"
•150lbs
•It was determined that Ms. Dimitrescu has a blood disease that we cannot
identify at the moment. Further tests
are required to find out the cause.
From what Irene read it wasn't quite named which blood disease it was. Of course there were many like hemophilia, anemia, blood clots, leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. She didn't seem the type to have anemia nor a blood clot else she would have died sooner. The other four were what worried Irene the most. She would find out sooner or later. Possibly never but she needed to also know what made her into what she is now: a blood sucking monster. Irene put away the envelope in a spot where she knew it would be, going to organize more of the boxes or papers that were laying uneven. It didn't take her long to organize the room, taking the envelope with her back to the bedroom.
Later that evening, Alcina came back from the usual meeting with the other Lords. What did they all talk about anyway? There had to be another secret tied to Alcina's past. Irene waited in the bedroom, envelope under her pillow and nightgown already pulled over her body. It shaped her more nicely now that she gained her weight back. As soon as the older woman entered the room, heading straight for the dresser to sit down and taking off her hat, the red head proceeded to speak up.
"Ahem..~ Mistress I...I have something to...to ask you."
"What's that dearest?" She answered, looking in the mirror back at Irene who turned around and slid out the large envelope out.
"I thought it would be good to talk about this. I don't want anymore secrets between us."
"Secrets huh? What that I have things hidden to my liking so no one knows. Uh uh. Not this one." Alcina stood up and snatched the envelope out of Irene's hands.
The red head took it back and opened it with the letter of her medical records, looking up at her mistress with a stern face. "No we need to talk about this! When were you going to open up to me about this?"
"You don't need to know everything about me..."
"If I'm going to be here forever yes I do! No more secrets, Alcina! No more running away! Just tell me what's going on..."
The woman knew it would come up sooner or later, she just didn't want to talk about it period. Irene sat with her arms crossed, green eyes piercing her mistress' and waiting for answers. Answers that could help. All she could do in return was sit down slowly, not taking her eyes off Irene, the daughters of her listening outside the door in the hallway. They weren't snickering or laughing in their usual way but quietly waiting for what their mother would tell the younger girl.
"I got sick. As you seen in the medical records I was sick with a blood disease that no one could find answers to yet. I went to what doctor I could to find a way to cure this. The truth is there is no cure for a blood disease...I knew that..." Alcina paused a moment, trying to suppress a memory but failed to in the midst of explaining. She could only stifle and hold back tears before continuing once more. "My partner and I, we planned to get married but we knew with this disease I couldn't have children. I did but in the end I had to...well...you know the rest...If I did it would carry on hereditarily and so on so forth...So when I was diagnosed he...he left and didn't come back...I had to terminate my pregnancy that my partner didn't know about because of the risks...and that was the end of my relationship and my career."
Irene sat there in disbelief, letting the papers fall to the bed and thinking over the photos she saw of her mistress and the man. That was him. He was the one she loved before all this. She pushed aside the papers and moved forward a little bit, struggling to find the words.
"So why become...uh...this..."
"Monster? I thought it would be a cure. I was notified by Mother Miranda who had an opportunity for me and Karl Heisenberg. At the same time we both thought we'd get what we wanted but...turns out it was nothing but a trick...No save for my height or size but I stopped aging. Staying forever in my middle age. We work for Mother Miranda to help bring her daughter back. We're still finding a way. We need a host but haven't found one yet that we know of...I saved you from that because I got too attached and...Karl would have my head if any harm came to you again."
It made sense now to Irene why this was so painful for her mistress. She lost a child and a partner. So she tried to get rid of the disease but it still did no good. The red head couldn't say anymore but move over again and sit closer to Alcina, feeling more like shit after she asked something so difficult of her mistress.
"Well...I guess...that explains it all...Your career and the photos...I...shouldn't have pried but I wanted to know the real you. Not this tough facade you put on...the real Alcina. I know it had to have been rough but you have your three daughters out there. That's family enough." Irene reassured Alcina, leaning in on her arm and looked to the floor. She felt the shame hit her like a brick wall, making her stomach feel sick that she had to force this all out. "I prefer to know the real you."
"I would too."
Irene turned her head up at Alcina's words. "I..."
"You pried into my past. Now it's your turn. Why did you come all the way overseas if you had a degree. There are plenty of jobs lined up."
"I think that...it wasn't that I could have a job lined up...it was me trying to get away from my ex girlfriend of seven years. We had been together up till the end of college. She...ended up with some other girl who was more exciting and daring. I had thought I wasn't enough...So I left after graduation and made myself a trip planned out. That's how I ended up here. I thought I could find more out here but turns out I got more than I bargained for."
Alcina got up to move to the back of the bed, pulling Irene with her and covering them with the sheets. She was gentle with Irene and pressed her face into her red hair, smelling it and enjoying the scent. "More than what you bargained for yes but we're both learning something."
