Wren's POV

I sat alone at one of my favorite bars, sipping on glass of white wine. I kept to myself tonight, looking at recent posts on social media of my friends and family having a good time or what they had on their mind. I would respond to texts from my close friend Ashlyn as they rolled in, going back to whatever platform I felt like. She lived in North Carolina and would come up to New York to visit from time to time, but I would make a trip once every two months to return to my hometown to see her. I was savoring my drink, enjoying the fact no one had come to hit on me yet. It was semi-crowded, giving people the opportunity to flirt and still no one slid into the vacant stools beside me.

I noticed a group of guys had strolled in, heading towards the back to have a more private setting. One of them caught my eye as he walked past. He was tall, had green eyes, dark brown hair, and a beard I could see scratching my thighs if I were to take him home. I didn't make it a priority to take anyone home, preferring a night to myself. I'd go home once satisfied with the time out on the town, put on a movie, and snuggle down in pajamas and blanket until it was time to go to bed. The handsome guy stopped and turned in my direction, flashing a smile and a nod, walking to join his companions. My cheeks flushed and I turned my attention back to my phone, tucking a strand of strawberry blonde hair behind an ear.

My night soon became interrupted when someone slid into the stool on my left.

"Hey, gorgeous. Can I buy you a drink?" a male voice greeted me. He had blonde hair and brown eyes. Perfect, just what I needed tonight. To be hit on, I thought. I smiled politely and pointed at my glass of wine, which was half full.

"I have one, thanks," I said, turning back to my phone. I hoped he would get the hint and leave me alone. He slid the stool closer, much to my annoyance.

"How about a chat? Seems a shame a beautiful woman like yourself is sitting here all alone. I'm Tommy. You are?" he continued.

"I'm not interested. I came here for some time to myself. I'd appreciate it if you went on your way," Tommy placed a hand on my wrist, and I tried not to cringe. Chills swept down my spine, alarm bells sounding off in my head that said to get away from him.

"Come on, sweetheart. Let's get to know each other. I'd love to take you home," he persisted. I twisted out of his grip, putting my drink on the rubber strip in front of us, signaling I was done with it. I got off the stool and made for one of the exits.

"No. Sorry, I was about to leave. Excuse me," I pushed my way through the crowd, doing my best to put some space between us. I figured if he lost sight of me, he would give up. I dared to turn back at one point to see where he was, my heart rate increasing as I noticed he was still following me.

"Shit. Okay, Wren don't panic. Keep going," I whispered to myself. I moved closer to the back, switching between keeping an eye on my pursuer and watching where I was going. It was the one time when I turned my head to check on Tommy's location when I ran into someone. I hit a wall of muscle, bouncing off it a little, coming face to face to the handsome guy I spotted earlier.

"Excuse me, I didn't see you standing there," I said. I got lost in his green eyes, the crinkles at his eyes when he smiled again. He took one look at my expression and the smile disappeared; concern etched onto his features.

"Are you alright, miss?" he asked. He stepped closer and I could smell his cologne. A mix of pine, vanilla, and cinnamon.

"I...um..." I froze when an arm wrapped around my waist.

"She's fine. She's with me," Tommy said. I watched as the stranger slid his gaze to the man currently holding me in his grasp, sliding it back to me. He tilted his head, reaching out a hand to me.
