"No way." Rose was in shock when I told her about seeing Waylen. "Out of all the people.. he's with Miss Dawson. I mean, not with her but.. wait, they're not together, right?'
"She didn't say they were." I shrug as I look around the parking lot as it was lunch time.
We were sitting on the grass outside, wasting our lunch away after we ate something from the cafeteria, but it wasn't even that good.
Rose couldn't believe it when I told her about Waylen. I never told her about him before so I had to bring up when I was back in foster homes and they were the first family that took me.
"Did you choose to leave?"
"Yeah. I couldn't stay there."
"How old were you?"
I thought for a moment. "Seven."
She shook her head before placing her hand on my shoulder as she was sitting close to me. "I'm sorry, Kai. It's weird though."
"What?" I ask as I look at her.
"How out of all the people that Miss Dawson has him as a roommate. I mean.. did she say why she was living with him?"
I nodded before picking at the grass and tossing it somewhere. "Said she moved back recently and he was an old friend."
"Gross."
"He's also a fucking drunk."
She furrows her eyebrows. "Like.. now?"
"He was."
"At age thirteen?"
Nodding, I kept the part of him being an abusive asshole towards me when I was living with his family. I didn't want to bring it up cause I didn't feel like reliving that part of my life again.
I started looking around at some of the students walking back to the building. I sigh before looking down at the grass and just wanted to sleep.
My sleep wasn't the best last night cause I went to bed so early. I kept waking up and thinking about Waylen that it was driving me insane.
Rose and I kept talking about everything and it was honestly making me lose my mind. I never wanted to relive my days in foster homes cause of how I was treated, so I erased them from my mind and did shit on my own without anyone.
Now that I know that Waylen lives with Miss Dawson, it's going to make things a little difficult between us especially if I go over there while he's there.
I don't want to invite her over to my house cause I made that a known rule ever since I moved in. I never wanted anyone, who was a potential girlfriend or whatever, to enter my house.
It was my only safe place and where I can be alone.
We said our goodbyes as the bell rung and I walked around that corner before seeing her stand at her doorway.
I held onto my book and saw her eyes meet mine before she smiles. I softly smiled back before walking in the classroom and sitting down at my desk.
As the bell rung, I saw Miss Dawson walk in the classroom before standing in front of her desk and leaning on it. I saw her eyes look around the room before looking at me and smiling before her eyes landed somewhere else.
We didn't do much in class besides some assignments. I finished it pretty quick so I was the first one to stand up and hand in my assignment, which caught her attention.
"Done already?"
"Yes." I saw her smile and I did the same before turning around and sitting in my seat.
I folded my arms on my desk then leaned my chin on it before sighing. I caught Miss Dawson looking at me as I faked a smile and leaned my forehead down, wanting to sleep.
As class went on, the bell rung and everyone had finished their assignments. I was still sitting at my desk, hoping I could stay in here and sleep until school was over.
I just wanted to go home and sleep.
Paisley didn't come over this morning so I knew I probably didn't have to pick her up from school. I remember she was with her mom this weekend, so she probably stayed the night over there and she took her to school.
I wasn't sure.
"Kai?" I heard Miss Dawson call my name and I look up to see her standing in front of her desk, watching me with concern. "Are you ok?'
"I'm tired. I want to stay in here and sleep." I saw her give me a look before nodding and I smiled before she picks up her phone and calls Mr. Greg.
Once she hung up, I sat there and had my head on my arms. I lean up before seeing her watching me, which made me raise an eyebrow at her.
"Are you getting sleep?"
"Not really."
"You're working too hard, Kai."
I shrug as I knew that wasn't the truth but I wasn't about to tell her. I couldn't stop cause that was who I was.
Miss Dawson let me sleep throughout the class period and I was more than happy. I relaxed a little and fell into a deep sleep, which didn't last long at all.
When the bell rung, I groaned before grabbing my backpack and textbook. I stood up and saw Miss Dawson walking towards me before grabbing my textbook from my hand and smiling at me.
"I'll take the textbook."
I softly smile at her before we both walked out of the classroom together. I looked around the hall as we were walking and I stopped at my locker before placing my book inside.
When we walked outside to the parking lot, I look over at her as she was walking before she caught me watching her.
"You got your car fix?"
"No, Waylen is coming to pick me up."
Hearing that name made me look away before nodding. I look back at her to see a slight frown on her face but I shrugged it off, knowing she wanted to know more about that situation.
But I wasn't ready to tell her.
After we said our goodbyes, I walked to my car and got in. I sat there for a moment then started my car and left the parking lot, feeling tired more than ever.
I wasn't sure how much longer it was going to take when my whole body decides to quit on me cause I'm pushing myself too hard.
But I can't stop.
I just need motivation and a lot of it to keep myself fighting.
When I got home, I had a text from Miss Dawson. I opened it and read where she told me to take it easy tonight and not work so hard.
That made me smile as I sent a text back before getting into some clothes and heading out the door.
