Note: This story DOES have a prequel, but you should only read it if you need more background information LATER IN THE STORY. It's called Secrets (a MPHFPC Fanfiction). You can find it on my profile.
I pulled my book from my bag and started reading. I heard some unfamiliar voices, so I looked up. There, about a few yards away, stood a boy around my age and a man. They look like father and son, according to how they address each other.
"Excuse me," the boy asked me, walking up to where I sat on the porch of my home. "Do you know where the Priest's Home is?"
"You must be looking for the Priest's Hole." I answered. "It's down the road and to the left." I nodded in the direction of the pub. Then I ask my own question. "Why are you here? We never get visitors."
"I'm looking for the old children's home. Do you know where it is?"
"I'm not sure. I haven't explored the island much, but I do know it's not on this street." I laughed. "I just moved here." In carelessness, I moved the pages of my book into view. Before I realized, the boy had looked at them.
"Why are you reading a blank book? How are you reading a blank book?"
"Umm..." I said, caught. I considered lying, but something told me not to. "It's not blank to me."
"Huh," He said. His dad was still asking around. "Hmmm... you're giving me a vibe. The same vibe those photos give me..." He seemed to be talking to himself now. He suddenly looked up. "What's your name?"
"August Perine. Yours?"
"Jacob. Jacob Portman. You can call me Jake, though." He thought for a moment. "Could you- er, do you think we could meet up again? Sometime soon?"
I looked at him strangely. "Yeah. How about this afternoon? I have to do some chores soon, so no sooner than 3 o'clock."
"Yeah. That works." He called his dad. "Hey dad! It's actually called the Priest's Hole, not home." Jake's dad walked over and peered at us.
"And I was wondering if I could meet up with August here at around 3? She has some information about the children's home."
His dad looked at us again and sighed. "Okay, Jakey. Just stay around here, alright. Now c'mon."
They left and Jake waved. I waved back. Maybe my move here to this god-forsaken empty little town wouldn't be as bad as I thought. If I made a friend. Of course, every other teen on this island were doofuses and jerks and Jake was only staying in the pub. So actually, it probably wouldn't be that great.
Then I looked down at my book and saw there was a different story written on the pages where there used to be a story about an alien planet. Interesting. It had never changed before I was done reading a story before.
I started reading, and I was surprised to see our conversation. I read the whole story, and by the time I was done, it was almost three and I was pale as a ghost.
A/N: This is my second completed work of fanfiction (my first was the prequel to this), so please comment what you think, vote if you like it, and share this with other people!
