I waited for Jake, chewing my lip, my fingers tapping in anticipation. He ran up at about 2 minutes past three, but I didn't say anything. Two minutes didn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Even if I was dying of excitement.
"I think I may know where the children's home is." I said bluntly. "Let's go."
Jake seemed a bit hesitant, but he followed me. I looked between the house and the swamp, wondering if we should go into the loop first.
"C'mon," I said, choosing the swamp.
"Wait, but isn't the house that way?" Jake protested.
"And it was destroyed by a bomb! Now come on!" I took the path into the swamp, on the lookout for footprints, after a while I found some.
"Step exactly where these footprints are," I ordered Jake.
"How do you know all this stuff?" He asked, suspicious.
"You'll know soon." I answered mysteriously. In truth, I was so excited, I could barely wait.
We stepped carefully through the swamp until we got to a low cave. I crouched and crawled through as best as I could, Jake following. I kept the mud off my book, but my shoes were not so lucky.
We arrived at the other side, coming out where we came in. The only difference was, it was sunny.
"The weather changes fast around here." Jake commented.
"Mmhhm. Sure." I agreed, but my mind is elsewhere. I quickly lead Jake to the house, walking up to the porch.
"I thought you said this house was destroyed by a bomb." Jake pointed out as I stepped up the steps.
"Just come up and you'll see." I replied to him. He grudgingly followed up the steps and joined me in front of the door.
I knocked on the door and it opened, revealing a woman with raven black hair and striking green eyes. I could feel a smile on my face. Oh my gosh this is really happening. She's real. All of this is real.
"Ah," she said, looking confused. "A day earlier than I expected." she collected herself and said "Miss Peregrine, delighted to meet you." At the same time I said, "August Perine, delighted to meet you."
In my excitement, I had slipped into my airy British accent (that I had picked up when I had stayed for a few years in a foster home in Europe), which sounded a lot like Miss Peregrine's. Then we both held up a hand to shake.
Miss Peregrine looked shocked and Jake looked confused. Of course he was. I smiled and shook Miss Peregrine's hand. "Apologies, Miss Peregrine. I got ahead of myself."
She raised an eyebrow and said, "Come in, I believe we have some things to talk about."
"Indeed we do," I replied.
This part was more like the movie since it was faster and more to the point. However, after the next chapter, it will be based off of the books.
