Note from the author: Sorry everyone, this chapter's short. Really short.

"Everyone, stay calm. Do as they say. They will not hesitate to hurt you and kill you." Miss Peregrine ordered us through the tense silence as we waited for the doors to open. How did she keep such a clear head? My head was pounding so hard, I surely would have done something stupid had Miss Peregrine not said anything.

But what would the wights think when they see my book again?

A second later, the doors did open, and there were three wights, guns pointing at us.

We stepped out to a view of red clouds and a giant fort. This, I assumed, was Devil's Acre. Here we were, smack-dab in the middle of the most evil place on Earth.

Two of the wights herded the four of us toward the entrance to one hallway, while the other brought Miss Peregrine the other way. We knew we were going to eventually be separated, but the intensity in Miss Peregrine's eyes made me nervous. How would we survive without her clear-headed thinking? I looked at Jake and Emma, and knew they were thinking the same thing.

The hall we were led into had the stench of sweat, but nearly all empty cells lined the walls. One-by-one, we were shoved into the cells. I was last, and one of the wights took my book, looked through it, then sneered. Then he did the unthinkable, he ripped it in half, right through the spine. Then he threw the halves at me. If I hadn't known I could repair it, I would have been devastated, which I suppose was the point.

Then they left, both casually walking past the guard with a tip of their hats.

Silence.
