Ruins Can Really Ruin Your Life

Dreams. They flowed through my mind like a river, fast and fluid. Dreams about my past, and what I guessed to be Percy's past. They rushed from when I was young enough to gain memories and from when Percy himself was about 12 years old.

Then the past became blurry, becoming visions of the present. There was Jack pacing furiously in what seemed to be his father's throne room, End relaxing on his shadowy black throne, paying no attention whatsoever to what his son was saying. I saw Annabeth, sitting on the edge of Percy's bed, talking animately to the now-healed son of Poseidon, probably boring him half to death. Elise was checking a familiar peacefully sleeping girl. The girl, I realized with a jolt, was me.

My eyes flew open, and I was blinded by the sharp lights in the infirmary. I sat up suddenly, but someone pushed me back down. "I'm fine." I protested, and shoved Elise's restraining hands away. My feet touched the cold, white tiles, and I walked 'til I felt the possibility of getting splinters.

I looked out over the camp from the porch of the Big House. It was more or less all back to normal.

"You saved me." A voice said from behind me. It was Percy.

I shrugged. "It's what we do. We save people."

Percy stepped up next to me and sighed. "Before End brainwashed me, he had me thrown into a dungeon cell. I had a cell mate, a certain mortal by the name of Michelle."

I stiffened. "My mother?"

He nodded. "She told me about my grandparents, and how she too was abused by my first step-dad, Smelly Gabe." He gave me a sideways look with his sparkling green eyes back to their normal gleam. "She was the last one who knew the real me before I was brainwashed."

It was silent for a couple moments.

"You look like her, you know."

I looked curiously at my friend. "You want to visit your grandparents, don't you."

Percy nodded sheepishly. "It would be nice."

A small smile grew on my face. "I'll ask Chaos if you can."

He gave me a hug. "Thank you." Then he turned and walked back inside to the infirmary. I stayed out on the porch, deep in thought, until the horn for dinner.

I haven't seen Jack in about two weeks. Hopefully he is relaxing on End's planet and has no ideas about attacking me or Camp Half-Blood.

I was hanging out with Elise, Piper, and Annabeth in the middle of Central Park, having a girl's picnic. It took Jason, charm speak, and a couple of spiders to get Annabeth to leave Percy alone.

We talked, and Piper filled us in on all the current gossip and news. Annabeth started to talk about her new architecture ideas, and the rest of us started to groan inwardly.

Then Elise attempted to change the subject. "Hey, Parkington, have you heard anything from your dad lately?"

I frowned. "No, not lately. The last time I saw him was about....." I trailed off, trying to remember. "Two and a half weeks."

"Don't you think something's up?" Annabeth asked.

Piper wiggled her eyebrows. "Have you gone on any dates with Alpha lately?"

I rolled my eyes. "No. I wish I could though. He's busy with the army."

Elise frowned. "You should check on your planet. Jack and End could've attacked it and taken away Chaos."

What she said worried me. I glanced around at my friends. "But I don't want to go alone. I wonder if you can come with me."

The girls weren't the only ones who wanted to come along. Percy and Jason decided to join.

My group met behind the Hypnos cabin, where I thought was a good place to use a portal to Chaos' planet.

"Everyone ready?" I asked. They all nodded. I concentrated, and a swirling portal appeared in front of us on the back wall of the Hypnos cabin. "Jump on in."

My first home was in ruins. I went to where my room was, and found torn sheets and curtains. The throne of Chaos was cracked in two, down the middle. "Father...." I whispered, and my friends all stood, shocked, at the destruction.

"Mara!" I heard a yell, and turned around in time to be tackled by a giant hug.

"Alpha!" I said, annoyed but also happy to see that he wasn't dead.

"Luke, what happened here?" Annabeth asked, her voice quiet.

My boyfriend pulled away from me. "End came and attacked. Chaos zapped everyone in the castle out as soon as he felt his brother's presence. But Chaos stayed and was taken by End."

"First my mother, then my home and my father. That guy needs some new hobbies." I grumbled.

Elise's turquoise eyes scanned the remains of the castle. "Something's off...." She muttered.

I turned to aura vision. Black light hung in the air near the ruins. Then I turned to my friends and yelped. All their auras were flickering, being eaten away by the hanging black light.

Jason frowned. "Is something wrong? What's happening?" His storm cloud aura flickered with lightning, and then he collapsed.

Piper rushed to his side, her pink dove pulsing faintly. "Jason!" She shouted, trying to wake him up. Then her dove went dark, and she too collapsed.

Elise crouched near the fallen heroes. "Their life forces....I can feel them.....but very faintly."

Annabeth's knees started to give way, but I quickly threw up a shield of power. Percy caught his girlfriend. "What is making them collapse like that?" He asked, scanning our surroundings for any threats.

I grabbed his wrist. "This is what's wrong."

He gasped, and so did Annabeth, who he was supporting. "How does that...affect us?" She whispered.

"The magic here isn't Chaos magic, which preserves life, but End's magic, which destroys it. Your little mortal life forms can't stand in the way of End without being drained of power and life."

Elise wrinkled her nose. "If we're the "little mortal life forms", then what are you?"

I shrugged. "I'm the daughter of a primordial. My life can either be extremely short or really long. So far it's been really long."

A low chuckle echoed through the ruins. My power shield shattered, and the rest of my friends dropped like stones. Alpha had disappeared, hopefully to check on the other citizens on Chaos' planet and to be able to come up with an escape plan from this place.

In front of me, the air materialized into a man wearing a black suit, looking very much like Chaos, but with black as Night eyes and a chilly, evil smile.

I whispered one word: "End."
