~Present Day~

So I was slightly wrong about the car ride being awkward. It was a bit silent here and there but overall I could cope. Calum never looked in the car mirror at me on the ride home. I was sort of wishing he would. When we pulled up at the house Naomi told me to stay in the car. Calum got out and unloaded his stuff from the trunk.

Naomi and I sit there in silence. Now, this is awkward. ''Is there something going on between you and Calum?'' She blurts out. My eyes widen in shock and I struggle to find the words. ''I- WHAT?'' I shout confused. I shouted at my best friend. In all the years we've been friends I don't think I've ever shouted at her. ''I don't know, you and Calum just seem so weird around each other I just figured something was going on between you two.'' She stares out the car window and trails at the end of her sentence.

''There's nothing on between us, Naomi. I promise.'' I hate lying. Especially when it's to Naomi. She turns around in the seat and looks at me. She can probably tell I'm lying. ''Good. Calum's always gotten what he wants in the past. He's always taken everything I had. I don't want him taking my best friend from me next.'' Her words feel like I just got stabbed in the chest. I smile sympathetically at her and then we get out of the car and unload our belongings from the trunk.

We mutter a goodnight to one another and head to our separate rooms for bed. Only when I get to mine Calum's sitting waiting for me on the bed. Once I spot him I quickly shut the door and lock it. ''What are you doing in here? You need to leave, now!'' I try to usher him off the bed but it's a failed attempt. ''What did I Naomi ask you in the car just now?'' I ignore his question and walk by him and into the bathroom.

He stands at the bathroom door with his arm above his head holding him up. ''What did Naomi ask you in the car, Phoenix?'' He's not asking me anymore, he's demanding I tell him. ''She asked me if was there anything going on between us.'' I turn the tap and fill the sink with water. Calum's no longer holding himself on the doorframe, his hands are running through his hair. ''What did you tell her?'' I splash my face with water before I answer him. He comes up behind me and spins me around to face him. His hands are holding my arms down in place by my sides and his face is telling me that he's had enough.

''Don't make me repeat myself, Phoenix.'' I gulp and look down at my feet. He removes a hand from my arm and pulls my chin up making me face him. He raises an eyebrow waiting for my response. ''I told her the truth.'' His face drops. ''What? Did you tell her everything?'' He looks like I just stabbed him in the back. I did the complete opposite of stabbing him in the back. ''I told her the truth. There's nothing going on between us.'' I pull myself out of his grip and turn back around to the sink. I turn the tap off and hold onto the sides of the sink and let my head drop.

''So in other terms, you lied to her again?'' I glance up at the mirror and see his half-smirk making an appearance. I want to slap that smirk off his face. ''I didn't lie to her. There is nothing going on between us, Calum.'' He looks taken back by my statement. He snakes his hand around my waist and pulls my back to his chest. I lean my head back onto his shoulder completely defeated by exhaustion and Calum's actions. His hands meet at my stomach and I place my hands over his.

He leans down and plants little kisses on my neck. I didn't realize how exposed my neck was from his angle. He keeps planting kisses on my neck until he reaches my ear. ''By the way you react to me, it doesn't seem like there's nothing going on between us. You'll need to tell her the truth someday.'' He releases his grip on me and walks out of the bathroom and plonks down on my bed. I close the bathroom door hoping he'll be gone by the time I get into my PJs.
