~ Present day ~
After a long night of twisting and turning in my bed, I still can't get Calum out of my head. Just leave it already! I hate my thoughts sometimes. I need to keep thinking about Naomi, how would she react if she knew? Would I still even be staying in this house? Would I even have an apartment when I get back to Boston? God, I think I'm getting ahead of myself. She's never going to know!
After Calum left my room I took a quick shower to wash off the remains of him and got into my PJs. Just a simple oversized T-shirt and shorts. You probably wouldn't be able to know I have shorts on because of how oversized my T-shirt is. I spent ages blow drying my hair after that. The bleach from getting my hair blonder made it so knotty and a torture to brush through! I started dying my hair when I moved to Boston. Going from a dark brown to blonde, was probably a bad mistake, but I needed to start fresh. I needed a new start in Boston.
The next morning was quiet. Mr. and Mrs. Calvin had left for their morning walk together, in other terms a cute couple walk. Their marriage is so perfect, I'm envious of them. Mrs. Calvin must have set the table for us for breakfast because it was covered in stacks of pancakes with all kinds of syrups and sauces scattered across the table. God, I could get used to this!
Naomi comes down the stairs and enters the kitchen. Her hair is tied up in a messy bun and she has big dark circles beneath her eyes. I was always so jealous growing up around Naomi. She has naturally tan skin while I'm as pale as a ghost. She has long brown curly hair that always seems to sit right whatever way it's styled. She has the most perfect teeth ever and she never needed braces for them, unlike the unfortunate people in this world. Her eyes are a mixture of green and blue. The complete opposite of her brothers' eyes. For siblings, they don't look anything alike. At first sight, you'd probably think they're distance cousins.
''How are you such a morning person, Phoenix?'' She groans as she snatches up a pancake and stuffs it in her mouth. I don't know if you can tell but, Naomi is not a morning person. I was up and dressed at eight this morning. It's always been the way since I moved in across the road ten years ago. I laugh it off and pour myself a coffee.
Calum enters the kitchen now. I don't look at him until I turn around and see him shirtless going through the fridge looking for milk. My eyes widen and I walk by him and take a seat at the table. Calum takes a carton of milk from the fridge and stands drinking it straight out of the carton. Does the man have any decency? ''Calum, your disgusting. Your breath probably tastes of morning breath.'' Naomi is still groaning as she speaks. She seems like she didn't get any sleep.
''I washed my teeth before I came down and I also never get morning breath.'' Calum sits down beside me at the table. He doesn't make eye contact. He doesn't look at me. He doesn't glance in my direction. Not once.
''Have you ever gotten a job yet, Calum?'' Naomi shoots at him from across the table. I can tell by her that she's irritated already and it's not even ten yet. ''I work at the garage in town, smart ass.'' Calum starts filling up his plate like he always did when we were kids. It was as if he wanted to take all the good stuff on the table for himself in case anyone takes it first.
''Save some food for the rest of us and for crying out loud go get a shirt.'' Naomi starts filling her plate up with food to try and take more than Calum. Their attitudes towards each other are definitely sibling attitudes. Part of me really doesn't want Calum to go and put a shirt on. He's actually gotten more buff since the last time I see him. His jaw has gotten more chiseled, his arms are huge, and his abs are looking fine. I try to rip my eyes off of him in case one of them notices me staring.
''What's your plans today, Nix?'' Calum's eyes meet mine and his half-smirk is aimed in my direction. FUCK, he must have noticed me staring. I clear my throat and try to form some sort of words. ''Beach. We're em, going to the beach.'' Naomi looks at me curiously and then laughs. ''Since when are we going to the beach?'' I take a sip of coffee and look over at her to respond. ''Since I dreamt of going to the beach last night.'' That's a lie, I in fact did not dream about going to the beach last night. To dream means you would have to sleep, I did not sleep last night.
