What is Love?

~ Chapter 6 ~

~Seven Years Earlier~

Naomi's been away on a trip to Italy with her aunt and cousins for the past two days, she won't be back until another three days. It's actually so boring when she's gone. I hear a knock at the front door and go to answer it.

I swing the door open and Calum's standing facing me. It's like the older he gets, his height doubles. ''Hey, Nix! Wanna come to the lake house with me today?'' He holds up a pair of car keys in his hands and awaits my answer. ''Sure. I just need to-'' He pulls me out of the doorway and closes the door for me. He lifts me up and carries me over his shoulder to his range rover.

I'm pretty sure The Calvins get a new range rover every year. I'm kicking and screaming at Calum to put me down but he doesn't drop me to my feet until were standing beside the car door. ''ARE YOU CRAZY? YOU COULD HAVE DROPPED ME!'' I yell at him. He's standing trying to stifle a laugh but fails. ''I didn't drop you though.'' He holds open the car door and ushers me in. ''Your carriage awaits, madam Parker.'' I sigh and slide into the passenger side of the range rover.

Calum doesn't even have his license yet so he takes the back road to avoid any cops to the lake house. The Calvin's lake house has been in their family for generations, so Naomi tells me. When my mom doesn't come home some nights I have sleepovers with Naomi and she tells me all about the lake house and how it's her favorite place to go in the summer.

We pull up to the lake house and Calum rushes out the door and round to my side of the car and opens the door. ''We have arrived at your destination, madam Parker.'' He holds his hand out to help me out of the range rover but I don't need help so I dodge it and hop out myself. ''Here, follow me.'' He trails around the outside of the house until we make it to the dock of the lake. It's a beautiful view. The nicest view I've ever seen. The sun is beaming down on top of the water making it glow.

The water is clear blue and looks fake. It's everything and more than what Naomi had described. I stand near the edge of the dock and look out over the water. Clear sky, sun shining, and clear blue water are literal perfection. Calum comes up behind me and wraps his arms around my stomach and pulls my back to his chest. I lean my head back and Calum places his chin on my shoulder. ''What are you thinking, Phoenix?'' I sigh and smile as I look out across the lake.

''I'm thinking about how gorgeous this lake is. Naomi described it to me before but I never knew how pretty it was until now.'' Calums plants a kiss on my cheek and looks out upon the lake. I relax my arms around Calum that are holding me tightly against him. I turn my head to look up at him and he lifts his head to look down at me. He leans down closer to me. I pull my hand up and press a finger to his lips because I know what's about to happen.

He grabs my hand and plants a kiss on my palm. I reach up and place the palm of my hand to his cheek. But before anything else can happen he lifts me up and throws me into the lake. I screach and swim my way back up to the top of the water to breathe. ''ARE YOU FOR REAL!!' I scream up at him. When I finally regain my eyesight I see Calum standing in stiches laughing down at me.

''I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I couldn't help it.'' He crouches down and reaches his hand out to help me out of the water. I grab his hand and dunk him into the water with me. ''PHOENIX!'' He yells trying to stay afloat. It takes him a good minute or two before he's finally floating. He searches under the water for me and pulls my waist against his when he does. ''I think I interupted something up on that dock, eh?'' I wrap my arms around his neck and lean into him more.

''This water is freezing. Let's get out.'' I pull away from him and hoist myself up back onto the dock. ''God, Phoenix. You really know how to leave someone hanging.'' I wait for Calum to get out because I don't know my way around this place and we need to hose oursleves down. ''Do you have a hose and spare clothes?'' Calum nods his head and walks around the house, I follow behind him until were around the side of the house with a little garden hose. ''I'll go find us some clothes we can wear while ours dry, wait here.'' While Calum goes in search for clothes I remove mine until I'm standing in my underwear cleaning myself down. For waters that's so clear I feel so muddy and gross.
