Finally, he pushed the door open to reveal... an absolute paradise. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine something as beautiful as this. We all walked in, and I couldn't help but focus on the great, big chocolate waterfall. This is just unreal. "It's beautiful," I couldn't help but whisper in awe.
"Oh yeah, it's very beautiful," Mr. Wonka responded. I looked up at him, expecting to see him admire his hard work, but was surprised to find him staring intently at me. When we locked eyes, we both blushed and I was the first to look away, covering up my embarrassment with a small cough. I felt as if someone was staring at me and turned to see Mrs. Beauregarde glaring at me. I raised my eyebrows. What did I do? At the same time, Mike was glaring at Mr. Wonka. However, unlike Mrs. Beauregarde, Mike's glare was actually terrifying. Honestly, what is their problem?
Mr. Wonka was either oblivious to their anger, or he just simply didn't care as he began to lead us over a bridge with no railings. I searched for Grandpa Joe and grasped his hand before we stepped foot on the bridge. I didn't want either of us falling in. He smiled at me and patted my hand. "I think Mr. Wonka likes you, Charlie," he said. I felt my face heat up but before I could say anything, Mr. Wonka began explaining the purpose of the chocolate waterfall.
"Every drop of the river is hot melted chocolate of the finest quality," he said, turning to us. "The waterfall is most important," he continued. "It churns the chocolate, mixes it up," he demonstrated the process with his hands, and I giggled quietly. His enthusiasm was refreshing. I guess he heard me because he turned to me with a small frown before breaking out in a big smile and winking at me. Again, I blushed and heard a low growl from someone behind me. No need to guess who it came from.
"By the way, no other factory in the world mixes it chocolate by waterfall, my dear children and you can take that to the bank!" He said proudly. Honestly, I would be pretty proud to if I had created something as magnificent as this. He stepped to the side and waved us to the other side of the bridge. As I passed by him, I immediately lost my footing and fell to the side. Out of pure instinct, I let Grandpa Joe's hand go. There was no need to drag him along with me.
I closed my eyes and braced myself, preparing to hit the chocolate but instead, I felt a cool hand wrap around my wrist and pull me back with so much force that I ended up slamming into a broad, surprisingly muscular chest, and a delicious scent invaded my nostrils. Since when did Grandpa Joe get so strong and when did he start wearing cologne? We can't afford cologne.
I peeked up and met Mr. Wonka's amused gaze. "Careful, little one. Wouldn't want ya to hurt yourself and miss out on the rest of the tour."
I blushed and sprung away from him like he was on fire. I stared down at my feet and pushed some of my hair back behind my ear. "S-sorry," I stuttered quietly.
I heard him chuckle and felt his hand lightly grip my chin, tilting my head back so I was forced to stare at him. "Don't mumble," he lightly reprimanded me before letting me go. He turned around and strutted away to the other guests who didn't seem to notice my almost fall into the river. A hand lightly enclosed around the same wrist that Mr. Wonka had grabbed, and I turned to see Grandpa Joe staring at me in worry. "Are you quite alright, dear?"
I smiled reassuringly at him as we began moving to the other side and said, "Yes, I'm fine. Thank you."
When we made it to the other side of the bridge, I heard Mr. Wonka say, "People! Those pipes," he waved to a large pipe moving across the chocolate river, "Suck up the chocolate and carry it away. All over the factory. Thousands of gallons an hour. Yeah! Do you like my meadow?" I glanced at the grass and smiled. Who wouldn't? Well, actually one probably didn't.
