“What if I told him I love you?”
The crickets go quiet as they listen in to the conversation.
“Would he tell me that he loves me back?”
A black-haired boy speaks with a raspy voice.
“Would he reject me kindly?”
He questions as his stormy blue eyes glimmer.
“Or would he accept me?-"
The moon twinkles so bright tonight.
"Just because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings-”
The wind rustles softly, not wanting to ruin this story.
“Like the saint he is?”
His heart sags a level.
“I rather face rejection than his pity”
The venom dripping in his voice causes the insects to flee.
“Oh, Kags..”
Comfort radiating from the other’s voice reaches his ears and heart.
“Come here”
Slim arms wrap around him as he feels warm, cared about, and loved.
"It'll be okay, my little dove"
-
“I love you”
He speaks the words that hide deep in his throat.
“Kageyama-”
His stomach does a flip as his thoughts go flying.
“I love you Yamaguchi”
His heart beats erratically.
“Kag-”
The look in his dark blue ocean eyes stops the other from finishing.
“Don’t”
They stare at each other for a moment as a wave of silence overwhelms them.
“I rather face rejection than your pity”
Then all of a sudden hurt is written all over Yamaguchi’s face.
“Kageyama”
The other speaks softly while Kageyama takes a breath as his heart skips a beat.
“I’m sorry”
His left eye twitches slightly as he tries to prevent a frown from growing on his face.
“I didn’t ask for your pity”
He speaks with a sour taste on his tongue.
“I’m not pitying you!”
The green-haired boy exclaims.
“I’m just apologizing!”
He mumbles under his breath.
“Why are you apologizing? It's not like you did anything wrong"
The deep sea stares right back at him.
"But I did!"
He looks at the pools of raging waters.
"I did"
He changes his tone of voice to something softer. Softer like a lullaby as the storm clears in the sea. But yet, even though the storm was gone, all Kageyama could feel in his heart was a growing turmoil. He feels like he is a sinner and Yamaguchi is a saint. Ironically, that is true. He is a sinner while Yamaguchi is a Saint. It's the truth and it rubs salt in his wounds.
