Chapter 2: Rochelle's Journey

"You sure your ready for this?" Tommy asks her, as he sets down a camera nodding to her.

"I've been ready since birth. This is my break" Rochelle smiles to him, reassuring him.

"Good. That's the kind of attitude I like" he looks past her at police setting up road blocks behind her.

"3...2...1" Tommy motions to her to start,"action".

Rochelle takes a deep breath bringing the microphone to her lips,"Hi" staring at the camera,"I'm Ro, reporting from Savannah, Georgia. There's been an outbreak across the United States. And it's expected too.."

"You two can't be here" an officer walks up to them, motioning for them to leave,"I don't give a damn about your story. No reporters".

Tommy nods to the officer,"we're sorry, but.."

"No buts. Get the hell out of here".

Gunshots are heard,"IT'S HERE" someone yells out.

Rochelle backs up, staring as what looks like people, down the road that leads out of the city.

Tommy turns to Rochelle,"this is PERFECT" he nods to her, lights, camera, action.

"This is Rochelle" looking at the camera, some fear in her eyes knowing it's getting closer,"Reporting from Savannah Georgia. What you see right now" pointing down the road past the road blocks,"is what's killed many, made many sick, & no one can stop it. What we are looking at is The End. The apocalypse. Or is it? Can we stop this virus before it takes over the country? Before it takes over the globe?"

Police start firing at the group, Rochelle jumps,"This is Rochelle, signing off".

"NICE job" Tommy gives her a high five, then looks out at the infected getting closer,"now we need to get you home".

"GRENADE" an officer yells, accidentally letting it go.

Then the policemen gets blown up, as does the cop car. The bodies fly through the air, the roadblock being compromised.

"OH MY GOD" Rochelle watched in horror, backing up, scared dropping the microphone.

Tommy quickly grabs a pistol, looking out at the infected as they rush towards them,"this is one story we got to tell Eyewitness 10 News".

Rochelle & Tommy rush into a nearby gas station, closing the door behind them, everyone in the stores looks at them, then at the creatures outside.

"Wha...what the hell is that?" One of the customers asks, pointing at the glass window at one of the infected pushing it's face against it.

Tommy looks to Ro,"you okay?'

"If by okay you mean scared after running from a group of people that want to kill you?" Rochelle takes deep breaths, bending to her knees.

The guy behind the counter just stares in horror, taking out his phone to dial 911.

"Forget it" Tommy looks to the guy," they already know about it. Haven't you been watching the news?"

Rochelle hears screaming in the distance,"worst trip ever".

The last costumer, a young female blonde doesn't take her eyes away from the glass door," is that ?? Is that a zombie?"

"Best not to think about it" Tommy adjusts his glasses as the guy behind the counter turns on the radio,"what are they saying?"

"Evacuation. At the Savannah Mall, and at the top of the Health Center downtown".

He turns off the radio,"we have to go" he rushes towards the door, as an air raid siren goes off.

"HEY" Tommy yells at the guy as he races outside, the blonde girl follows him as a crowd of people goes into the street.

The guy turns to them,"Their right" he quickly goes behind the counter, searching for a gun or weapon,"Come on....where is it?"

"Kid, I..." Tommy tries to talk to him.

"I'm not going out there empty handed. Did you see those things? Their still out there".

Rochelle looks to Tommy,"what if we miss evacuation?"

"Your not" Tommy tells her, taking out a small sharp pocket knife,"I'll stay with the kid. GO."

Rochelle nods, and races outside as the sun hits her dark face. She quickly takes off in a sprint, turns around then watches as the gas station blows up. A huge semi ran into the gas pumps.

"NOO" she cries out, then turns to her right & watches in horror as the guy that was behind the counter starts getting torn apart by an infected.

"Last Evacuation at the hotel" a nearby radio says, she just looks around at her surroundings.

"Hell on earth?" She races towards the hotel.
