Francis walks with Sarah down a long empty road, no infected nearby, nothing. Just empty cars, blood everywhere and a couple of corpses that were headless. The fresh air not smelling so fresh anymore, more like dead meat. A siren went off in the distance somewhere, both walk side by side. Not trusting the silence for one second.
"Thought you said there was no safe haven?" Sarah turns to Francis,"I take it you've been at this for a while?"
"I was with a good group of people" he tells her, lighting up another smoke, and blew it from his nose as if to show off,"their not with us anymore. This is a new world we live in, sweety."
"Don't call me that" She tells him, heading down the long empty street, surprised she hasn't seen anymore of the infected,"Where are they?" She says in a low voice.
"ANYONE HERE?" Francis calls out.
Sarah quickly ducks behind a car after Francis yelled, turning to him,"are you crazy?" She looks up at the big man,"are you trying to get us killed?"
Francis just chuckles, looking around them,"Does it look like we're surrounded?" He turns from her looking around them,"It's quite, too quite" he brings his gun up, looking around them.
Sarah slowly rises back to her feet, staying cautious,"Do you see something?" She asks him, a worried look on her face.
"Yeah, an ice cream truck" Francis responds, bringing down his shotgun heading towards the truck.
"Really? What are you trying to do?" She follows him, knowing she's safer by his side.
"I haven't had ice cream for a very long time" he grabs the back door, and slowly pulls it open, then heads into the darkness in the back of the truck,"Do you like chocolate or vanilla?"
Sarah just stands there, shaking her head,"We're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, and all you can think about is Ice Cream?"
"It's been a long day" he then reappeared jumping out from the back of the truck with a chocolate ice cream cone, noticing Sarah's giving him a weird look,"What? Don't you teenagers eat all the time?"
"What if........it's infected?" She just looks at the ice cream cone, at that second she felt the ground shake from under her for a brief second.
"Trust me sweet cheeks, it's not. And if it was and I turned into one of em goons? You better pull that trigger and fast" he licks his ice cream cone, following the long street, curious as to where all the infected went.
Sarah just looks down at the ground, images of her brother's face replays in her mind. She remembers Christmas dinner last year, when he'd try to take all the food. A tear slowly drops from her face, still couldn't believe he was gone. Gone forever.
Francis notices the silence turning to her,"Listen kid, I know your going through a rough time but you got to pull it together. People die. Everyone I knew & loved are gone too" he puts a hand to her shoulder,"all you can do is keep going. If you can't do it for yourself then do it for your little brother. These are tough times".
Sarah raises her head staring up at him, looking at him as if he was a father figure,"Is this The Last of Us? Are we really the only ones left?" Another tear falls from her face.
"I'm not the best at being sentimental" he reminds her, watching a tear drop fall from her pretty eyes,"We are not the last one's left, trust me on that one" he felt a rumble right underneath his feet, all of a sudden he froze.
Sarah froze right in her spot, feeling the rumble too, she asks in a low voice,"What, what was that?"
Francis puts a finger to his lips as if to Sssshhhhh, turning his head towards the rumblings, trying to find out which way it was coming from then just says one word,"Tank!"
The rumbling beneath their feet continued, the ground shaking below them. Francis stands in front of the young woman, trying to look for where it's coming from to be prepared. He's been here before, The Lone Survivor. He brings his shotgun to his shoulder, looking around them, he turned right looking down an alleyway. then realized what happened to most of the infected. The infected stands between two fences in the alleyway, all crowded like sheep. The weird thing was, they had no jaws. Like someone removed them.
"We're not alone" Francis says to Sarah, and waits.
