however many years later~~

I walked through my front door, sighing loudly. I wanted Spot to think I got turned down again. He hates when I do things like this, but I love it.

"Hey darling, how did it go?" Spot asked me, walking up to me through the kitchen. He kissed me on the cheek and grabbed my bag from my shoulder, expecting me to give him bad news.

"I got Jack and Sarah's wedding invite," I say, placing the letter on the table.

Spot took the letter and looked at it. "Oh, they can finally afford it?"

"Yeah, like we're any better."

I could sense Spot was about to apologize for my "failures", so I changed the subject so I could hold this off as long as I could.

"Mommy!" I heard two little voices yell from the other side of the house. They both came running to me and each hugged my legs.

"Mum, Joseph pulled my hair earlier!" Dorothy told me. I leaned down and turned to Joseph.

"Joseph, I told you that if you pulled your sister's hair again, I would make you grow yours out and it would be all long like mine and Dorothy's."

Joseph started to pout. "No! I don't want to look like a girl!"

Spot chuckled, then told the children to go to their rooms. "So, what are we going to do?"

"Well, we could start with helping Jack and Sarah pay for their wedding."

"Wait, what?" Spot looked at me with wide eyes.

"They bought my story." I said plainly. Then Spot started laughing and hugged me tightly.

"You did it! You actually sold a story!"

"Don't sound too surprised. They also said they wanted me to finish it. They'll post the first chapter in the pape then I have to write the rest." I told him.

He smiled and kissed me. I was really happy about this and so was he.

"Ew!" I heard someone say. I turned to see Joseph standing in the doorway.

"Joseph, go help your sister get the guest room prepared."

"Why?" Spot and Joseph asked in unison.

"Crutchy's coming to stay with us for the week, remember?"

"Right, I forgot about that."

"And now that we'll have the money, we can finally put this to good use," I said as I held up the key wrapped around Spot's neck. "Crutchy will be here any minute now so pick up your toys from that room, please. And help your sister make the bed." Joseph nodded and walked back to the guest room. I went to the kitchen to start making dinner until Spot stopped me.

"What are you doing?" He asked me.

"I'm going to make dinner. I was thinking roast chicken with some vegetables and maybe a bit of rice on the side." Spot twirled me around and wrapped his hands around my waist.

"You aren't making anything tonight," he whispered.

"If I don't, who will?"

"I will," he said smiling.

I laughed. "Spot, I love you, but you cannot cook."

He pulled a strand of my hair behind my ear, trying to sway me. "I will follow your recipe to the dot, I promise. You deserve to have the night off. Especially after what you've done for us today."

He pecked my lips and I smiled. "Fine, but I will be right here to make sure you don't screw it up."

"I wouldn't have it any other way."
