When the lunch bell rang, the class started to talk about the sports festival. Y/n just put her headphones in and refreshed her messages in hopes Nori's location would be on.

Y/n walked silently with the Bakusquad down to the cafeteria, sitting down at a table as they went and got their lunches.

"Are you not gonna eat, L/n?" Mina asked, sitting down beside her. Y/n took out a headphone, and turned to her.

"I doubt i'd be able to stomach anything right now. My anxiety is too high, by body would probably reject it instantly." She sighed, leaning back into the cafeteria seat.

"Awe that super sucks!" Mina pouted, pointing out the food, "Lunch Rush makes the best food!"

Mina then turned to the rest of the group and talked about random things like normal, and Y/n just put her headphones back in and turned the volume up high.

She tapped her fingers on her knees to the beat of the song, zoned out as she listened to the music. A notification silenced her music for a moment, and when she looked at her screen, her heart dropped.

-

Shockcollar
Im so sorry, Y/n. I
tried to protect you
from them. It's all
my fault. I love you
so much, thank
you for everything.

-

She almost dropped her phone as she got up, getting looks from Mina and the others as she started walking away.

Her heart was in her throat, and she felt as if her breath had been knocked out of her.

What did he mean by that? "I tried to protect you from them."

From who? Who was after her? Who did he sacrifice himself to protect her from?

Before she knew it, she was on the ground against a wall in an empty hallway, shaking and crying.

Her phone was on the floor next to her, her headphones detached and laid beside it.

Was that it? Just like that, her best friend was gone? The man who, before even himself, was there for her?

Y/n clutched her mouth to silence the sobs that desperately wanted to escape, holding in her screams. She was numb.

Her whole body was shaking profusely, her breaths shallow and sharp. It reminded her of the night she came back from the hospital. Covering her mouth, pulling at her hair, the loud pulsating ringing in her ears that just seemed to get louder every breath she attempted to take.

Y/n felt like her world she had desperately tried to rebuild after the loss of her parents had crumbled around her yet again.

Deep down, though she didn't even want to think about it, she knew her best friend was dead. Who ever had put a target on her back had killed him.

Her mind raced with all the horrible ways he could have died. The pain, torture, and agony he most likely went through before he died made her sick to her stomach.

A soft voice snapped her back to reality, "L/n?"

She looked up, and saw Todoroki now bent down beside her. His normally cold eyes softened at the sight of Y/n. Her eyes were puffy and her lip was bleeding due to her biting down on it so hard.

Tears continued to slide down her cheeks as her bottom lip quivered. She felt so weak in front of him.

"He's gone.." Y/n murmured through a quiet sob, placing her head back into her hands as she laid forward onto her folded legs.
