Chapter 2

2

" That was scary huh?" Malcolm said walking with me instead of being the idiot he is and skating ahead.
" Yeah totally." I said dryly. " I had a near death experience."
" Yeah, I know I was there." he said. We stayed quiet for a few minutes then I finally had the courage to say something.
" Thanks. For looking out for me." I said smirking a little. It took a while for him to say sure but he finally said it. We didn't speak after that because it was so awkward the way everything played out. I think Malcolm could sense Jacob trying to flirt with me. I got that feeling too when he came up to me smiling instead of looking terrified. It was also surprising because not many boys choose to flirt with me. It was probably because I was the only girl in the area. Anyway, we walked up the school courtyard and saw many kids standing around chatting waiting for the bell.
" Malcolm!" One girl screamed and she ran up to us.
" Oh god, hide me." Malcolm whispered. The girl wore a mini skirt with a spaghetti trap tank top. She had long shinny brown hair and wore pink flip flops. Definitely not Malcolm's kind of girl. She approached us with a huge smile on her face. Well, when she looked at Malcolm she had a smile, when she looked at me, it sort of faded.
" Hi Alex." she said in a dry tone as if she could care less about me. And I feel the same about her.
" Hi Stacey." I said. Yes I know the girl, but I rarely talk to her because she's apart of the popular group. And I'm certainly not.
" I'm gonna go inside." I told Malcolm. He made a face telling me not to leave him hear. I just smiled then went on my way leaving him to be tortured. I think the last thing I heard from Stacey was, " Want to sit together at lunch?" My dear Stacey I'm sorry but the answer is going to be.

" Yes! You said Yes?!" I questioned Malcolm who came up to me in the hallway after our first class.
" I couldn't say no." he said.
" Yes you could. It's just no. Why is that so hard?!" I turned to my locker and pounded my head on it. " Well it's your own fault."
" Yeah I know, that's why I told them you were coming." he said then flinched knowing that I would strike.
" You What!!" I yelled.
" Look, it's just one day." he said.
" It better be." I said then closed my locker. " Don't talk to me." I said before walking away heading for my next class.

We entered the lunch room and saw the different tables. You had the populars, the nerds, the wannabe populars, the wannabe nerds, the Emo kids, the cheerleaders, then the plastics. Haha, yes I call them the plastics. Ever since I saw that movie Mean Girls, I've been calling them that. Me and Malcolm just walked up to them slowly. We stood behind them waiting for them to notice. Stacey turned around.
" Hi Malcolm!" she exclaimed. " Oh you brought a dog with you."
" What did she just say?" I said anger building up inside. Malcolm pulled me back. His arm was tough and muscular so I couldn't get past.
" Sit." she said patting her hand down on the seat next to her. I sat on the end and Malcolm sat between me and Stacey.
" So what do you want?" he asked.
" I just wanted to talk." she said batting her eyes. I rolled mine then stuck a fork into my food. I noticed her friends staring at me.
" That's a lot of food." one girl said.
" Well luckily you don't have to worry about it going into your system." I said with a straight face. I squinted my eyes in a way to tell them to back off. The one girl raised her eyebrows then went back to chatting. I smiled devilishly then went back to eating.
" What do you want to talk about?" Malcolm asked.
" Us." she said.
" Us? When was there ever an us?" he asked. I looked up and opened my ears listening closely on the conversation.
" Well, I can sense you've got a thing for me." she said.
" I'm flattered but, I think you've got more of a thing for me." he said pulling away from her hand that rested on his.
" Well ask me to the homecoming dance." she said.
" Sorry, I don't go to those things." he said.
" Awe why not? You'd look great in a tux." she said and I almost choked on my piece of bread.
" That's ok, I'll pass." he said beginning to get up.
" Where yah going?" Stacey asked.
" Um, I have to go to a class." he lied. " Come on Alex."
I jolted right up from my seat leaving my tray of food on the table.
" Aren't you going to dispose this?" Stacey asked.
" Um, nope." I said then walked away with Malcolm.
" God that was torture." he said.
" I thought about saving you, then I said why not just go with the flow." I joked.
" Shut up." he said walking a little ahead down the hall.

" I thought school would never end!" Malcolm screamed as we exited the school courtyard. I held my books close to my chest as he skipped a little acting weird.
" Ew you look like a dork." I teased. He stopped then gave me the finger. I dropped my right arm into my left arm ( telling him to f off ). Anyway, we were about five minutes away from the house when I spotted the four boys from this morning again. Or did they spot me? They motioned themselves over to our side of the street.
" Not this group again." Malcolm said irritated. I've gotta say I was a little irritated as well. They kept popping up out of nowhere.
" Hey." The Jacob guy said. The other boys just waved probably intimidated by a small group like us.
" What's up." Malcolm said scooting closer to me acting like an older brother.
" Hey." I said quietly. Jacob smiled then looked straight at me. We're about the same height. He had hair as if he stepped out of the 70's. His skin looked soft and his eyebrows were perfectly placed above his eye's. He smiled this smile that could get any girl to melt. Kind of like Malcolm.
" How are you?" he asked still staring at me. I didn't say anything. I just smiled and nodded.
" I'm gonna take that as your feeling good." he said. " I just wanted to apologize again for this morning. We got a new driver."
" Good." I managed to say. He smiled again then looked down. He stuck him hands in his pockets then fidgeted around with his feet.
" I was wondering if I could make it up to you by taking you out somewhere?" he suggested. I was frozen. Was I just asked out on a date? Or was it just a friendly gesture?
Malcolm's eye's widened. I could tell he felt a little uncomfortable in the situation. He knew I would say no, but here's the surprise, or shall I say. Pay back for lunch.
" Yeah sure." I said. " I'd like that."
" Oh good." he said.
" Who's driving?" Malcolm asked.
Jacob laughed then looked to him " We got a new and improved driver."
" How do you know?" Malcolm asked pouring question's on Jacob.
" What are you her brother?" Jake asked.
" No, I'm just a really good friend." he said.
" Oh." he said. I couldn't take this awkwardness anymore.
" Pick me up at 7?" I asked.
" Yeah sure." he said.
" Great." I said then walked away.
" Where do you live?" he asked.
" If you want to go out with me that bad then figure it out." I said. I heard him laugh then he called back to me ok.
" You said Yes!" Malcolm shouted.
" Yup, just like you did earlier." I said.
" I don't trust this guy." he said stopping me. Did Malcolm actually care?
" I'll be fine, I can take care of myself." I said walking
