"Kenma!"

The boy quickly turned to you. "Run, while you still have this chance."

You looked at him in confusion as a group of boys walked up to you. "Huh?"

"Hi again, Y/n!" Kuroo sat in the seat in front of you, showing you a bright smile.

"Um... hi, Kuroo-san. Is everything alright?"

His hazel eyes looked into your e/c orbs. "Yep. Just came to collect Kenma for lunch, if that's fine with you?"

You quickly glanced at your friend from the corner of your eye- he was being pestered by the other boys that walked in. "Uh, that's fine with me. But shouldn't you ask Kenma if he wants to join you guys?"

Kuroo shrugged, not taking his eyes off of you. "Kenma usually always eats with us, even though we usually also have to find him and make him join us. Lately, we've been letting it slide though."

You gave the older boy your full attention. "Why's that?"

Kuroo smirked, raising a finger and pointing it at you. "He made a new friend that was all alone here. I felt that it would only be fair to give him a few days to spend lunch with you. But now we all miss our setter and would like to have him with us at lunch again. You don't mind, do you?"

"You're kinda like Toru, but more intimidating."

The boys' eyes widened, completely focused on you.

Kuroo straightened his back, sitting taller than before. "Who's Toru?"

You flinched, not realizing Oikawa's name slipped past your lips. "Uh, sorry, I didn't mean to-"

Kuroo maintained a straight face, cutting you off. "I didn't ask for an apology or explanation. I asked who this 'Toru' is."

You gulped, your hands clenching into fists under your desk where no one but Kenma could see them. "Just... someone."

"A boyfriend?" Kuroo was persistent to know who he suddenly reminded you of, even if it was a more intimidating version of this person.

As much as you wanted to say yes, it would've been a lie. There was no better option than to tell the truth. "Exboyfriend, actually."

Kuroo already connected the dots, finally having a name to the ex Kenma had briefly told him about. "Ah, I see. Sorry to ask."

"I- it's fine."

Kuroo brushed a few strands of hair out of your face, tucking it behind your ear and smiling gently at you. "No, it's not. It's none of my business and I shouldn't have pried."

You didn't look at him, attempting to glance at Kenma. "Kenma, did you want to go eat with your friends?" You tried putting on smile, but you were too intimidated by Kuroo and confused by his sudden attitude change.

And Kenma saw through it. "Not really."

The other guys flinched, looking at the setter in shock. "Why not?!"

Kenma didn't take his eyes off of you. "If I eat with you guys, Y/n will be lonely. It's not fair to her if I leave to eat with all of you while she doesn't have anyone else to sit with."

You looked at him with gratitude. 'He's a good friend. He's being so thoughtful and caring, all for my sake.'

Kuroo sighed, standing up. "I never said Y/n couldn't join us. We will be seeing her at the cafe this weekend, there's no problem with her joining us for lunch."

You two looked up at the Nekoma captain, surprised by his offer. "Really?"

Kuroo smiled at you. "Of course! I'd be a terrible senpai if I left any kouhai to sit by themselves at lunch."

"Especially if you're taking her only friend away, rooster." A shorter boy with light colored hair made that somewhat mean comment to the captain.

Kuroo glared at the boy. "Shut up, Yaku."

Yaku rolled his eyes before turning to you, a softer expression on his face. "Wanna join us for lunch today?"

Kuroo gasped. "Yakkun! I was gonna ask her!"

"Too bad. I asked first, stupid rooster."

You giggled at the interaction, being reminded of Oikawa and Iwaizumi. "Yeah, I'll have lunch with you all. It's not completely fair of me to keep Kenma all to myself."

The boys stopped and looked at you, almost surprised by your almost immediate response. They also found your giggle cute, though it was a shock that that was your reaction to Yaku and Kuroo bickering back and forth.

You stood and held your hand out to Kenma, a smile plastered on your face. "Let's go?"

The boy gave a faint smile, nodding before taking your hand and letting you pull him up. "Yeah."

Bonus!:

"Oh, so those are your names and positions!"

The boys nodded, having just explained how their team functions with all these different guys playing together.

Kuroo smirked. "You seem to know a lot about volleyball."

You nod. "I was the manager for my old school. My friends had taught me the sport. Toru and Haji even helped me learn to play. It was mainly to help them, but I think they both would've liked to see me play on a team myself."

"Ah." Yaku's eyes sparkled as he listened to your explanation. "Have you ever played on a team before?"

You shook your head. "No. I've never been the best with people, so I really just stuck with Toru and Haji."

Kuroo tipped his head to the side. "We all know who Toru is, but who's this other guy you've been taking about?"

"Oh, Hajime. I call him Haji. He's been me and Toru's friend our whole lives. He lives next to Toru. He's probably the best friend I'll ever have."

"Oh? He's a nice guy?"

You nod, meeting Kuroo's gaze. "He's like an older brother to me. He's always there for me and protects me. He can seem pretty scary at times, but he never has any bad intentions."

Kuroo nods. "I see. Too bad I couldn't have met him. Sounds like someone important to you."

You smile, nodding once more while a faint blush spread across your cheeks. "He is. All the guys from my old school are important to me. Sure, they were a chaotic team... but they were like a family to me."

Kenma looked at you, finally pausing his game again. "Seems like you made really good friends before."

"I did. And I miss each and every one of them."
