Darcy Pov:

After I parked my car in the lot, I got my bag full of equipment and hefted it up into my arms. I kicked my car door shut as both of my arms were full, and struggled my way to the entrance.

I pushed my way in, still struggling with my heavy equipment. I looked up at the large tv screens above the desk, and walked towards the door. As I struggled to get my keycard out, someone walked up to me.

"Allow me to help." Hayward said with power in his voice. Fuck this guy. He always has to be the big strong man, and I'm sure he purposely was waiting for me, so he could 'save me'. Anyway, he led me into his office and started talking. I zoned out listening to his bull and he eventually shooed me out.

I regret not listening, because now I don't have any knowledge of the upcoming mission. I was too busy thinking about Monica. Her and I met in college while I was getting my doctorate.

Flashback

I was standing at the doorway of my first class. Today was the day I was finally starting my doctorate. I was excited, but also nervous. What if I wasn't good enough for this class? What if I failed?

Jane had pushed me to follow my dreams, but she had recently been diagnosed with cancer. What if I wasn't there for her enough? What if she died without me?

After taking a deep breath, I walked into my classroom. It was a normal school classroom. I looked around and there was only one free seat. It was next to this stunning woman. She had hair that had obviously been done by someone who knew what they were doing.

"Is this seat empty?" I ask after I gained my courage to walk to her. I was surprised that I hadn't stuttered while talking to her. A grin formed across her face as well as what might've been a blush.

"No, you can sit if you want!" She then looked around and put her head in her hands as she realized the class was full otherwise.

Flash forward

A few weeks after we met, we started dating, but it didn't go very well. We were still friends after, so it didn't really affect us that much. After we graduated, we decided to go to the same job, so we could stay in touch. I was missing our relationship though, and was thinking about asking them out again, but before I could bring up the courage, the blip happened and she disappeared for five years.
