Jerika's POV

Maybe it was the hormones.

Yes, I blame the hormones.

I groaned.

"Attorney..." pagtawag sa akin ni Andrea.

Tumingin ako sa kaniya at saka ngumiti. Sabi ko noon, hindi ako magiging masungit na boss. Ayoko no'n. Gusto ko encouraging at compassionate na boss ako. Kaya kahit pinipigilan kong sumingaw ang init ng ulo dahil PMS days ko, ngumiti ako na parang wala akong minumura sa isipan ko.

"Patawagan naman si bebe ko—I mean, si Doc Delgado. Thank you." I needed to talk to my husband to make me feel better.

I smiled to myself.

Just calling him husband was enough to get me kilig. Ugh. Kainis!

"Babe," bati ng asawa ko pagkasagot niya ng tawag.

"Busy ka?" tanong ko. Red was now on his second year of emergency medicine residency. Iyon ang gusto niya kasi kaunti lang ang doktor na nagi-specialize ng emergency medicine sa Pilipinas. Madalas kasi ay sa ibang bansa lang may ganoon, tulad ng family medicine. At saka sabi niya, na-enjoy niya naman daw ang pagtambay niya sa ER noong clerk at intern pa lang siya.

"Hmm. 'Di naman, ER's chill today—shit, I shouldn't have said that. Baka ma-jinx!"

Natawa ako nang mataranta siya saglit. "Chill, hindi 'yan!"

"What are you up to now, love?"

"Punta ako mamayang RTC. Samahan ko Atty. T kasi trial na. . ."

"Right. Oo nga pala, you mentioned it last night. Eat before you leave, though."

"Yes. I'm about to leave now actually. Bili lang me food sa McDo."

"Good."

"Ikaw, baka nagpapagutom ka rin dyan, ha?" I heard him chuckle. "Nah. I'm good, babe."

"Sige na, tatawid na akong kalsada. See you later! Save lives, dokie!" I made a hushed kissing sounds and I heard him laugh on the other line.

"Love you, see you later."

Ibinababa ko na ang tawag at naglakad na.

Bumuli lang ako ng burger at fries tapos iced coffee sa katabing coffee shop. This is already my second dose of caffeine for the day and I could already see Red's disapproving look. He keeps on reminding me of my caffeine intake but I just couldn't help it! I'm a lawyer. Sa kape ako nabubuhay!

Palabas na ako sa coffee shop nang mapansing may maliit na commotion sa labas. Nakaharang sila sa daan kaya hindi ako makadadaan at tawid. Kumunot ang noo ko. This is a business district at halos lahat ng tao ay naka-corporate attire kaya bakit may nag-aamok ng away sa public place? Not so professional, ha?

Tumataas ang boses ng dalawang lalaki kaya nakakakuha na sila ng atensyon. Wala namang magtangkang umawat dahil na rin siguro sa takot na ma-involved.

I breathed deeply para kumuha ng lakas ng loob. I cannot, in good conscience, not do anything. Especially that my job is literally related to justice. I need to mediate, at least. Baka kulang lang sila sa matino at maayos na usapan.
