(Timeline: Fellowship year in Emergency Medicine)

Ranz Emilcon's POV

"Doctor Delgado to the ER. Doctor Delgado to the ER."

I heard my name being called while I was attending to a patient.

"Let's monitor her condition, keep her in IV drip. Check her urine output from time  to time. If anything changes, page me ASAP," I told one of our residents.

I put alcohol on my hands when I found one in the nurse's station before I walked to the emergency room.

It was not a busy today in the ER so I easily found the patient. He was a teenager, around fifteen to seventeen years old if I'm not mistaken. His forehead was bleeding. I wonder what happened to this kid to have a nasty gash on his forehead.

Napailing na lang ako. Kids.

"Hi, I'm Doctor Delgado," I smiled to the patient and his worried mother. "What happened?" I turned to Dr. Sison, a second-year resident. There was also a nurse attending to the kid.

"Matthew Morrison, fifteen. His forehead was profusely bleeding due to a fall. Four-inched gash, no suspected skull fracture."

"Okay, Matthew. Dr. Sison here will dress your wounds. He'll do a full body workup and we'll get you a CT and X-ray as well, just to be sure," I said, smiling to the kid.

"Page me and Peds if there's anything beyond normal," I said to Dr. Sison before I went to the nurse's area to finish my chartings.

I spent the day in the ER, with some rotations in the afternoon. I also had an emergency surgery for a woman who suffered internal injuries and bleeding because she got rammed by an ambulance—I know, fucking ironic.

Suffice to say I was bone-tired when my shift ended. I looked at my smart watch and realized it's past eight PM ready.

I internally groaned.

I did not have any energy left in me to change into a casual clothes. I usually change clothes first before I go home so that I do not bring any bacteria or virus to my wife at home, but there were times like these that even walking is a chore.

I retained my dark blue scrubs on me and snatched my phone from my pocket. There was a text message from the wife.

Wifey 💕:
Pauwi ka na, my love?? Let me know if kaya mo pa magdrive ha?? Haha

I smiled at her text. She always ask me if I can still drive, not minding that she's also tired from work. I got lucky with this one.

'I can still drive, love. I'm on my way home. Love you.'

'Ingat, dokieee 😘' was her last text before I drove home.

***

It's been a few hours since I got home and we were just chilling in the living room. We were both in our pajamas and there was a face mask on my wife's face. She was holding a bowl of popcorn while her eyes were intently focused on the screen.

"Mabulag ka," natatawang sabi ko dahil halos hindi na siya kumukurap.

"Babe, ang intense na nang nangyayari! Hina-high blood ako! Tumataas presyon ko!"

Natawa ako.

We were watching a psychological-thriller korean series in Netflix. Kakasimula pa lang namin at talagang hooked na si Jerika.
