The Infection wiped out all of Willow Water. And no one saw it coming. It was out of the blue.

It was a normal day in Willow Water on October 14th, 2016, but that very evening, everything had changed. They were told to go to their nearest schools for shelter and hiding as barely anyone in Willow Water had basements.

Not a lot of families believed in the danger and stayed home. But that was a mistake.

Cole left his house that evening to go to his school. He adjusted his black hair so it wasn't in the way of his glasses. And once he got to the high school, that's when he heard the screams. But no matter where he looked, he couldn't find out where they came from. Once he got to the gymnasium where everyone had been kept, he was grouped with a girl his age and her younger brother. The young boy looked frightened but the girl tried to keep him calm. He didn't look any older than nine. And the girl looked about seventeen.

"Is he alright?" Cole asked. He knew it was a stupid question, but he wanted to start a conversation.

"He's just worried. Our parents fought before we left saying we shouldn't go, but I just felt something off."

The girl wore a black shirt with a short pleated black skirt with the end being white. Her sneakers were the only thing that stood out as they were a pale green. Her short brown hair was kept up by a white scarf that had black dots on it.

Cole noticed the resemblance of the two siblings when the boy looked at him. Both had the same pale skin, freckles, and dark brown hair. But the girl had hazel eyes while the kid had dark green eyes.

"My name's Cole." He continued.

"Abigail." she paused. "This is Phillip. He's in the third grade."

"Oh nice. I'm a Junior here."

"Same."

The conversation was awkward between the two. They didn't know how long they were kept at the school, but at some point, people fell asleep. Cole and Abigail stayed up and talked as Phillip fell asleep on Abigail.

"Does Phillip do anything out of school?" Cole asked.

"I mean, he does baseball. He's been playing since he got into school."

"Oh cool, I used to play baseball."

"Oh? Did you quit?"

"Yeah, I got a bad injury and felt like an idiot every time I went back out on the field, so I stopped."

"I used to play basketball until I broke my leg when my foot got tangled with someone else's. I fell, the other person didn't."

"Damn."

"Yeah, but at least someone in the family still gets to be both parents' favourite." she sighed.

More and more hours passed by and Abigail and Cole fell asleep.

By morning, everything seemed to be in complete chaos. The danger was the infection that had occurred the night before. And now the infected broke into the school.

But it also seemed like someone had also broken in, as there were traps everywhere. Ropes that hung you upside down once trapped, bear traps, tar and even hidden nets.

Cole and Abigail awoke to screams and when Abigail looked at her lap, Phillip was no longer there.

"Phillip?" she questioned. Then it hit her. "Phillip?!" she shouted. "Phillip, where are you!?"

She got no response and looked over at Cole.

"We need to leave," he said.

"I can't without my brother."

"We will find him, but right now, we need to leave."

"He could be dead!"

"Abigail! If you die, you won't find him!"

Abigail paused. Then looked around. "Alright, let's go."

The two ran to the double doors that led out of the gym, but were in the hallways of the school now.

"I know another way out that isn't the front." Abigail looked at Cole.

"Lead us there."

The two ran to one of the classrooms, but Abigail stopped when she heard a snap.

She looked down to see a bear trap on her left ankle. But she didn't scream.

"Cole," she said calmly. "I don't believe either of us will get this off."

Cole wasn't looking at her until he stopped looking around. "What do you mean?" He looked down at her foot and saw it. "Holy shit. Abiga-"

"I need you to leave without me." Tears were forming in her eyes.

"I'm not leaving without you."

"You just met me. And for all we know, the infected could be close to us and the last thing I need is for someone to die because of me."

"But your brother-"

"If I do get out. Then I will find him. But if I don't and you find him," she paused. "Please keep him safe for me."

Cole didn't know how to respond until he heard glass break.

"Run!" Abigail told him.

He hesitated a bit until he did run. But the whole time he ran, it felt like he wasn't moving at all. And that he was just imagining it.
