Chapter 15 Confessions

Shane and Jase walked through many halls until reaching the only room they spotted.

"Jesus, how long have we been walking for?" Jase asked.

"I don't know. I left my phone at Grace's apartment." Shane responded.

"Can we take a break then go back to searching? I feel like coming down here just drained me."

"Yeah, sure. As long as we get back out there soon." Shane said, his voice barely coming out and it sounded like a whisper.

Jase looked at Shane as he closed the door. "You alright? You seem very uptight."

"I just-I guess my mood changed when we came down here." he said, nervously.

Jase raised an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Well, yeah. I mean, I'm the one that fell through the door."

Jase sighed. "I guess." Then he looked back at Shane, who was looking at the ground. "You know, this may be the last time we come out here as humans." Shane looked at him. "And I have been meaning to say this for a while but-"

"I-" Shane tried to interrupt, but ended up causing them both to be silent.

"Go ahead." Jase said.

"No. You-you were talking first. So you go." he was suddenly more nervous.

"Alright." Jase sighed. "The past year, I realized,--" he had a hard time speaking. "I realized that I had feelings for you."

Shane suddenly let out a breath that he held and had a low and quiet chuckle.

"What's so funny?" Jase asked.

"I've just been having this really bad feeling. Because I also had feelings for you and you know this whole time we were paired up, I just thought I was going to lose it and tell you. But you confessed first so tech-" he was suddenly cut off by his rambling when Jase smashed his lips onto his.

Shane sharply inhaled when it first happened, but felt comfort by Jase's lips and kissed him back.

Jase slipped his hand around Shane's waist to pull him in closer while Shane put his hands in Jase's hair. Just as Shane sighed, he felt Jase slip his tongue into his mouth. He gasped and out of the blue, they heard a smash.

The two pulled away and looked at the door.

"Fuck." Jase groaned.

"Well, I guess that's our cue to get back to searching." Shane spoke.

The two began to leave the room when they saw someone on the ground. Jase kept Shane behind him.

"Hey, you alright?" Jase asked.

There was no response from the person. But they looked up and their eyes looked like they were filled with blood. Their skin was deathly pale and soon enough, they threw up this black goo.

Jase and Shane backed up.

"H-help me." the person whispered. Then they screamed and the two watched as they turned infected.

"Shit, run the other way." Jase said, pulled Shane's wrist so they made it to the hallways again.
