It wasn't long until Cole did find a place to hide. It wasn't his home, but his friend Shane's home.

His ever so innocent, gay, friend. Who apparently had his other friend Jase there.

"The hell happened to you?" Jase asked when Cole burst into the door and slammed it shut, locking it.

Cole was sweaty and out of breath from his run from the school to there. "I-" he said out of breath.

"Give the man a moment." Shane said, going back to sketching.

Jase playfully mocked him. "No but seriously, what happened?"

"The infection-or whatever the fuck it is-broke into the school-" he gulped.

"Which school? City or Neighborhood?"

"Neighborhood dipshit." he finally caught his breath. "If it were the city you would've fled the city by now. It hasn't reached here yet." he looked up. "Also, why are you here at Shane's house?" he asked.

"Well-I-he invited me here." Jase stammered.

Cole knew one very obvious secret about Shane and Jase, both liked each other, but none had the balls to tell the other and get it over with.

"Sure," he scolded. Cole barely had to look over to see Shane hiding his red face. His ginger hair was even worse to hide it with as well. "Where's William?"

"Hiding in Shane's room. I don't want my brother to get-whatever is going around. Plus he was scared as hell at the school."

Cole sighed and leaned against the front door. "Shit." he breathed.

"What?"

"I forgot that I promised to find this girl's brother because she got trapped at the school and her brother went missing when we woke up."

"What's the kid's name?" Shane asked, not looking up.

"Phillip." Cole responded.

"Last name."

"Didn't get it."

"What's the sister's name?"

"Abigail."

"Abigail Smith?" Jase asked.

"I don't know fuckhead." Cole looked at him.

"Why would it matter?" Shane asked.

"Because last year during mathletes-"

"Ha! Nerd." Shane laughed.

"There was this girl named Abigail who was from the high school closest to the neighborhood that beat us, she was really smart. I talked to her for a bit after the game and her brother came up to her."

"What did the brother look like?" Cole asked.

Jase paused. "Brown hair, green eyes and I think freckles, but I can't exactly remember."

"That's what the kid there looked like."

"Okay, so it might be the same Abigail we're talking about." Jase confirmed. "We can check her house. Maybe she's there."

"No. She got caught in a bear trap and an infected wasn't too far from us."

Shane looked up from his sketchbook and Jase was silent with Cole.

"Shit." Jase muttered. "So her brother is out there, without his sister."

"Yes! Wasn't that obvious?! The poor kid is probably dead by now!" Cole said. He paused and looked over at the car keys on the table next to him. "I'm going to find the kid."

"What?"

Cole grabbed the keys and started to unlock the door.

"Woah hey!" Jase grabbed the keys out of Cole's hand.

"Jase-"

"Cole. You cannot drive. You don't have your license!"

"The law doesn't matter when there's a fucking infection Jase!"

"It does if you'll get yourself killed!"

"Well what are we going to do?! Sit around and wait to get killed?!" Cole stated.

Jase heavily sighed. "Give me a second." He went to Shane's kitchen and grabbed a small knife. Then he went upstairs to Shane's room and slowly opened the door. "It's Jase. Don't kill me." he stated. Then he opened the door the full way and saw his younger brother William on Shane's bed. "You are going to use this, if anyone comes in the house and is unwelcomed." He handed William the knife.

"Where are you going?" William asked. He was barely nine and was scared for his life.

"I'm leaving with Shane and Cole. We will be back. I promise."

"What-"

"No. We will be back."

William nodded his head and Jase left the room, closing the door.

"Alright let's go." he said, as he made his way down the stairs.

Cole was already out the door by the time he said that, and Shane was still on the couch.

"Shane." Jase said firmly. "You're coming too."

Shane set his sketchbook on the table and when he got to the door, Jase had held it open for him. That's when he hesitated to go through. When he did, Jase felt ever so confused.

"He's so cute." Jase thought.

"Jase!" Cole shouted from the locked car.

"Shi-shit. Sorry!" he snapped out of his thoughts.
