They got back to the car and saw the night approach quicker than they thought it would.
"Shit," Jase muttered. "We're not looking at night. That's practically death at its door."
"Alright, we'll find a place to hide and rest, then in the morning we'll go back to searching." Cole suggested.
"Okay," Jase muttered. He went to go unlock the car, but before anyone got in, he checked in on William who was still hiding. "You holding up?"
"I need to pee," he whispered.
"We're going to find a place to hide tonight, and you can use the bathroom there."
William nodded his head and Jase let the others get in the car.
"How much gas is left?" Shane asked.
"About half. We can make it to the place and just a bit in the morning." Jase sighed, turning the car on.
He drove for a few hours until making it to a somewhat safe area away from the infection.
Once he hid the car somewhere not too far from the house they were going in, they got out and walked there. Jase held onto William's hand and felt it shake as he warily looked around.
"You're alright." he whispered to his younger brother.
William squeezed his hand tighter as they got closer to the house. Once they got inside, they barricaded the door with the side table next to it.
"Alright, let's look around to make sure nothing is really in here." Abby said.
And so they did. Until every room was checked, they finally got to relax.
"Do you think they had food?" Shane asked, coming out from the corner.
"Quite possible." Jase responded, going towards the fridge. "They have vegetables. But it's either that or we cook things. And with these infected, we don't know how well they can smell something being cooked."
"They can smell very well." Cherri said. The group looked at her. "I've encountered one once. My family was cooking and suddenly they came bursting through the door. It's safer to eat things that don't require cooking." she explained.
"Alright." Jase said, looking back in the fridge. He had an off feeling about Cherri as Shane did. Something about her felt off but he couldn't place it. He looked up and saw some fruits on the counter. Then he sighed.
"Guess we'll stick to counter fruit." he said, tossing an apple to William, who nearly didn't catch it.

That night they all slept in the living room. It
was a good choice since most of the bedrooms there had dead bodies in it.
Jase kept William close to him while the others were spread out.
But, in the middle of the night, Abby awoke to someone moving her hair off her neck. She instantly jerked away and saw Cherri backing away from her.
"The hell are you doing?" she said, not realizing her volume.
"Sshh." Cherri said.
Abby noticed the syringe in her hand. "What's in that?"
The others awoke to the conversation.
"What's going on?" Shane yawned.
Abby just stared at Cherri until Jase noticed the syringe as well.
"The fuck?" Jase said.
"I can explain-" Cherri started.
"Yeah you better." Jase interrupted.
