"Hey, Leo, Jo, where you been?" Chase asked as Leo and Jodie entered the common area. Jodie immediately clung to the bionic boy, who didn't even question it.
"We just finished watched a 24-hour horror movie marathon. We were so scared, Jo kept making her force field and I chewed through all my fingernails. But on the bright side, I had a big bowl of popcorn, so they were delightfully tasty." Leo explained.
"You okay, Jo?" Chase asked, looking down at the superhuman in his arms.
"I'm never sleeping again." Jodie mumbled, hugging the boy closer. Chase in return, only smiled and kissed the top of Jodie's head.
"Guys, how is our first Halloween at the academy going to be spooky when all we have is this pathetic little box of Halloween decorations? And uh, what is this disgusting slime in the trick-or-treat bowl?" Bree asked, taking the bowl out of the box.
"Oh, that's not slime. That's last year's pumpkin. You know, I'm surprised it didn't keep." Adam said. He then sniffed the bowl and gagged, making the other four grimmace.
"Ew!"
"Hey, guys." Bob said happily as he entered the common area.
"Bob, what are you doing here? All the other students are out with Mr. Davenport on a field trip to the Davenport birthplace and museum." Chase said, looking at the young boy.
"Gosh darn it, I can't believe I'm missing that." Bob said, sarcasm evident in his tone.
"Ah, I have taught you well." Jodie smiled, reaching her arm out and fist-bumping the boy.
"Really, Bob?" Bree asked.
"Oh, come on. Part of the tour is him re-enacting his birth." Bob argued.
"This kid might be smarter than we thought." Adam said as the others nodded.
"Ooh, smoothie." Bob said. He then took the bowl with the pumpkin and walked out of the room.
"Maybe not." Adam said and quickly followed after the young boy.
Perry then walked into the common area, holding a metal detector. "Later, machine people and alien. I'm taking the metal detector to the beach to look for other people's money." Perry explained.
"I'm guessing you're done going through our wallets then." Jodie said.
"Yep. How do you think I paid for this thing?" Perry said and gestured to the metal detector just as Douglas walked in. "If you need me, I'll be at the island across the way." Perry continued.
"What island? The deserted one?" Douglas asked.
"Yeah. Care to join me? There's room for two in my inflatable kayak. If you're good, we could play shipwrecked passenger and curious island native." Perry said, looking at Douglas with a suggestive look.
"How about we play shipwrecked passenger and rescue pilot who just keeps flying?" Douglas suggested.
"Hey, I've always wondered about that island. Ooh, maybe there are waterfalls." Jodie beamed.
"And caves." Leo added.
"And maybe we'll be introduced to a cool new species of insects." Chase said.
"And then, we can introduce them to an uncool species of human." Bree said to her brother.
"Trust me. You don't wanna go to that island. From what I hear, that place is uninhabited for a reason. It's a scary jungle full of venomous snakes, rabid bats, and toxic plants that cause rashes." Douglas explained to the four teens.
