They plodded down the corridor till they came to a tall, green door with the word 'Principle' above. "Sit down." The old woman who had found them in the bathroom said as she pointed towards two old wooden chairs. "Mrs Coleman will see you shortly." She waddled away round a corner and out of sight.
"What are we ment to say? We can't tell the truth." Steve exclaimed. "Just say we where smoking and we'll get suspended for like a day and it'll be fine." Billy said calmly handing Steve a cigarette from his pocket. Steve nodded in agreement and took the cigarette. He presumed it was to make the story more believable although he wasn't sure it was the best story to go with.
They sat in silence, the only noise that could be heard was the chair bouncing up and down. Nerves had gotten the better if Steve and he was now begining to panic. Confused, Billy stared at Steve then asked, "What's wrong?" "Nothing." Steve shook his head. "Well something is wrong otherwise you wouldn't be shakin' my brains out." Billy said as he placed his hand on Steve's leg to stop it from bouncing. The brown haired boy looked at the hand on his knee then up at Billy and back again, tracing his arm with his eyes. "What? You never been suspended before?" Billy questioned. "Well... Yes... But... That's not the point... I don't smoke... an.. and if I did it probably wouldn't be with you." Steve spluttered.
Billy slumped back down into his chair letting out a large sigh. "WoW. Can't believe you wouldn't want to smoke with me." He said with a chuckle. Their laughter came to an end when the door beside them swung open. A tall woman with blonde hair stepped out. "Oh hello, please do come inside." She said in a squeaky voice, her arms indicating the door.
The boys stood up and and stroller inside, taking a seat in the two smoke grey chairs. The office was pristine. Everything was perfectly placed, even the pens on the wooden desk. The tall woman followed behind and closed the door. Her gait was sophisticated as she walked to sit in her grey armchair. "So, would either of you two like to tell me why you were in the bathroom and not in your English class?" She asked. Neither replied, they just lowered their heads to avoid eye contact. "Neither of you are willing to tell me? I must say I expected better from both of you, especially you Mr Hargrove having only joined us not long ago." Billy raised his head, shrugged and lowered it again. "Well, if your not going to tell me then I must presume the worst. I am going to suspended you for 3 days."
Both boy's heads darted up with their eyes bulging from the sockets. "Your suspension will start today and you will return on Thursday 15th. You may leave now" she squeaked, then stood up and opened the door for them. They plodded out and the door slammed behind them. Having no need to stay in school for the rest of the day the made their way down the hall and out into the carpark. "Well this is just fantastic." Steve said sarcastically. Billy chuckled. "Could have been worse."
They laughed as they made their way over to Billy's car and climbed inside. "Oh, I'm sorry I wasn't thinking." Steve babbled. "It's fine, in guessing your car still isn't fixed?" Billy chuckled as he started the engine. "No it's still in the garage, should be fixed by Friday though." Steve replied. Billy put the car into gear and sped off down the road.
It wasn't long before Steve spoke up. "You want this back?" he asked, passing Billy the cigarette he gave him earlier. The boy took his eyes off the road to look at what was being presented to him. "Oh, thanks." he said, reaching out his hand to grab the object and placed it in his pocket. ''Where are we going?" Steve said rather alarmed as he noticed Billy wasn't driving in the direction of his house. ''Oh, I thought I'd drive us to Hideaway so we can get something to eat.'' he chuckled. The car fell silent as they drove, not even the radio could be heard.
They eventually arrived at Hideaway and went inside to order some food before finally taking a seat at one of the many empty tables. They sat opposite each other in a booth, their feet touching beneath the sticky table. Both of their faces painted a cherry red. "Um... About the other night, in the car." Billy began before he was rudely interrupted by Steve, "No, I'm sorry I don't know what came over me. I shouldn't have done it and I can promise it won't happen again." "Yeah, I um.. shouldn't have reacted the way I did either." Billy nodded, lowering his head.
Their food arrived shortly after and they gobbled it up before heading back out to the car. They strolled over to the car and climbed inside. "I'll take you home now." chuckled Billy. Steve laughed in return. Just as they pulled out of the carpark small spots began to appear on the windscreen. It wasn't long until the spots where the size of golf balls and could be heard pounding roof of the Chevrolet Camaro. "This rain is getting heavy, we better get you home before it gets worse." remarked Billy, putting his foot down.
By the time they reached Steve's 3 story mansion, loud rumbles where being produced along with bolts of lightning. "I'll see you Thursday, when we're allowed back at school." Steve said rolling his eyes as he climbed out the car. "Yes see you Thursday, I'll come pick you up if your cars still broken." Smiled Billy. "Yes thank you, Bye." Steve waved as he walked up the drive.
"Harrington, wait!" Came a yell from the car. Startled, Steve turned round to see Billy dashing towards him. The blue eyed boy came to a halt and locked eyes with the boy before him. "Wha...." Steve was cut off by cold hands cupping his shap jawline then the pressure of rough, warm lips pressing against his own. There's noses firmly pressed against one another
Rain falling on their heads, bouncing off in all direction. Mullet finally pulled away and wiped his lips. "Bye, see you Thursday." he said as he ran back to his car. He waved at Steve one last time before speeding off.Still in a state of shock, Steve stood staring down the road when the door behind him creaked open. "Steve, what are you doing home so early?"
