It was quiet. I tried to open my eyes again. My right eye wouldn’t open. My left eye… it… it opened a little. Just enough for me to see an open door and a hallway. The door was green with white spots, there were at least 5 spots. The hallway had the normal floor that you see in school classrooms. There were blue and green and red and some other colors that I couldn’t make out. I heard… I think they were footsteps. Which meant someone, or maybe something, was coming. All of a sudden a shadow was looming over me. My eye must have closed and they must have entered before I opened it again. The person was wearing a black jacket with some type of logo on it. The person said, “Hmm. One of her eyes is open. But only one, and,” the person took a pause, “it’s just barely open.” I tried to think: do I remember this person, should I know them? I couldn’t remember anything. I blinked and suddenly a picture appeared in my mind. A person, and the words: Uncle Sam beneath him. I studied the picture while I could but the more I looked at it, the more it became just a thought, not actually there. I blinked again and saw the man staring at me probably wondering if I would move. I realized the man looked like the man in the picture so he is probably Uncle Sam! I said hey Uncle Sam! I see you! I am awake! Uncle Sam didn’t seem to hear me, so I spoke louder. He still didn’t seem to hear me, so I moved my hand and waved. Since he hadn’t noticed me yet, I got out of bed. I kept doing things like jumping, running around him in circles, and slamming the door shut, but he still paid no attention. Finally I went to sit back down but I saw someone lying in the bed. This person had bandages on their head and had their left, no right, no wait, yes left, eye open a very little bit. The person had medium-length blond hair pulled back into a low ponytail as I would usually have my hair. I was wondering who this person who had stolen the bed was when I heard footsteps coming.
Another person walked through the door. This person was dressed like a doctor or nurse, with a blue and white uniform. The person also had brown hair pulled back into a braid. Their name tag said, Jana. I tried to talk to them to ask them what I was doing here and why Uncle Sam, if he actually was Uncle Sam, wasn’t answering me. Once again no one answered me, it was like they didn’t even know I was here. Just then Jana said, “I see Ali is still sleeping,”
Then Uncle Sam asked, “Do you know if she will wake up soon?”
Jana answered, “Hopefully, most people knocked out like this, wake up anywhere from last week to next week.” Uncle Sam got a sad look on his face and put his head down.
Well, I now knew the name of this girl. Her name was Ali. I also knew that she was knocked out in some way and that the man who I think is Uncle Sam, is worried about her. So this must be some hospital, or doctor's office, or urgent care, or whatever it’s technically called. Suddenly I heard a knock at the door and someone asked, “Is it okay if I come in?”
The doctor or nurse person, Jana, answered, “Yes, come on in.”
This person looked familiar like I had seen her every day before like they were… family? I stared at her trying to recognize them. When the person saw Ali, she gasped.
“She has bandages on her head,” The girl said sadly.
I thought, yeah it’s sad I feel bad for that girl I wonder what happened. I looked over at the girl again and a picture started to form in my mind. The picture looked like the girl, and a name appeared, it said, Bailey. I thought, Bailey, was this, my sister? Was she my best friend? My cousin? As I kept thinking about it, the world kept darkening slightly. I didn't realize that the world was darkening until… the world went fully black.
