Two days later we were busy with prepping for thanksgivings. Steve parents were still out of town so Nancy, robin and I hijacked thanksgiving. Nancy was in charge of the salad, green beans, and the sweet potatoes. I was doing the turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Nancy and I Unanimously decided that robin was in charge of going to the store and getting dessert.
I got up before the crack of dawn to start the turkey. Max was a god send and spent the night so she could keep Will out of our hair while we got ready. Steve and Jonathan kept coming in the kitchen to see if we needed any help but they were more in the way then anything. We had to keep smacking their hands from digging into the food while they thought we weren't looking. We weren't sure when Eddie was going to get in, but he said he would make it for dinner.
"Please for the love of god, please get out of the kitchen." Nancy yelled at the boys for the millionth time.
"When will everything be done? I'm starving!" Steve complained.
"It will be done in an half hour." I said with a sigh. "I don't think Eddie is going to make it.""He said he will be here. He'll be here." Robin said rubbing my back.
"I hope so."
"Steve can you set the table?" Nancy asked setting the silverware on the counter."Cara it's so good to see you again!" Joyce comes in the kitchen followed by Hopper carrying a large cooler of drinks. I had only met Joyce and hopper two other times but she was always so warm and caring. The definition of what a mom should be. When I had called and invited the Byers/hopper family she seems frazzled that I only asked her to bring drinks, she offered to cook the whole thing. But I wanted her to just enjoy her holiday, but in pure mom fashion she went above and beyond with not one but two coolers full of drinks ranging from bottled water, pop and some adult drinks for those over twenty one.
"Hey Cara. Thanks for inviting us." Hopper says with a pat on my shoulder then quickly exits the kitchen not wanting to get in the way.
When the timer went off I drained the potatoes and started mashing them. Taking my frustrations out on them when a ringed hand appears next to me on the counter and a bouquet of flower appearing on the other side.
"I told you i would make it. I actually got here about twenty minutes ago but me, argyle and Jonathan Uh..... took a walk" Eddie says resting his chin on my shoulder. Turning my head and kissing his cheek.
"Ya, I can smell it." Turning around in his arms laughing then kissing him deeply."Come on your two! We're hungry!" Dustin says walking into the kitchen and grabbing the sides to put on the table.
"We'll finish this Later." He promised kissing my cheek and grabbing another side helping to set the table."Cara, we have a problem." Max comes in the kitchen with a crying Will.
"I put Will in the outfit you set out. But now he won't stop crying." Turning around to see the crying toddler pulling at his mini button up shirt.
Eddie start laughing uncontrollably."Well there is your problem. He isn't a dress clothes kid." He says taking the child away from max and walking away. Putting the mashed potatoes on the table Eddie appears a few minutes later with a much happier Will in a mini Metallica shirt.
"Much better huh buddy." He says giving Will a high five before sitting down.
"Oh man I'm starving!" Jonathan says digging in to the stuffing.
"I bet you are." I say with a laugh.
"Oh man, this food looks off the chain." Argyle says sitting down next to a very suspicious Hopper who just sniffs and narrow his eyes, but says nothing. I laugh to myself while I make a plate for Will."Should we all go around and say what we are thankful for?" Joyce suggested and some of younger kids groan.
"I'll start!" Joyce says clapping.
"I'm thankful for Cara, Nancy and Robin making this wonderful food." She turns to look at robin beside her.
"I'm thankful the store sold pies and I didn't have to cook them." She said turning to the older Will.
"I'm thankful we are all here so we can play D&D after dinner. Don't worry eddie I got DM covered." He said with a laugh turning to El."I'm thankful for robins dessert specifically made for me Triple-Decker Eggo Extravaganza." She says turning to Mike.
"Im thankful for the gravy." He said turning to Dustin.
"Im thankful we are all here together." Dustin says turning to Eddie who claps his back.
"Me too, glad I am able to spend it with you guys. Will what are you thankful for?" He asks the toddler."Dinosaur!" The whole table laughs.
"Cara?" Eddie asks.
"I'm thankful for this patchwork family. That you guys accepted me and will so easily. You guys are the best." I see Joyce at the other head of the table discreetly wipe a tear.Turning to Jonathan. He looks around the table confused.
"Huh?" And the table laughter returns.
"I'm thankful for Purple rain." Argyle says with a laugh.
"The prince song?" Hopper asks.
"Ugh, yea let's go with that..." he says turning to look at Jonathan wide eyed. Hopper didn't look convinced.
"Uh I'm thankful for this food." He mumbles then looks to Nancy."Im thankful to be done cookings. Boys got the dishes right?" She says looking at Steve.
"I'm thankful for the dishwasher." He says looking at Max.
"I'm thankful I got to see my nephew this week." Max days looking at Lucas. He ends the circle thankful for mashed potatoes And we fall into silence as we dig into our food. I feel a soft kick on my ankle and I look up to Eddie.
"Turkey is really good babe." He says with a wink.
"Thank you."After dinner all the guys jumped up and started dishes quickly because Will wanted to start D&D and he was insisting they clean up now because Erica would be over any minute and they needed the whole table. Eddie got to sit out of helping out so he could fill out a character sheet.
"It's been a long time since I've been a player not the DM. I wish I had my stuff. I wasn't expecting to play while on tour." He laughed. Will was nice enough to let him borrow his book and dice. I sit beside him while he worked on his sheet with little Will passed out on my shoulder. When he decided on a bard I giggled.
"What?" He asked.
"Oh I just made a mental bet with myself. That you would pick a bard." I teased and he leaned forward to kiss me.
"Do you want to play?" He asked."Nope I'm a strict watcher." I say with a wink.
By the time Erica arrived, dishes were done and the table was set. Laying Will down next to hoppers who's head was thrown back snoring loudly I head to the kitchen to get some dessert. Settling down next to Eddie to watch the game.Eddie was a fantastic storyteller, and the younger new DM was following in his footsteps. He was captivating the players and the audience,me.
As the game wore on Little Will climbed on to Eddie's lap still sleepy from his nap and joined in watching to. That was until it was Eddie's turn to roll to cast a spell. Reaching up for the dice wanting to roll them himself, Eddie let him. Sadly the roll wasn't high enough, but Eddie just laughed and said.
"Next time buddy, get dad a higher number."
