I wake up to see the sun fully up and Eddie asleep in the chair beside me. I had woken up from a knock on my door. It was a nurse bring in the baby.
"Good morning mom. Did you sleep well?" I nod and put my hands out to hold my little girl.
"The doctors will be in shortly. But I believe you have some visitors. Your little boy is here to meet his sister.""Oh good." I say as she turns to walk back out.
"Eddie, wake up. Wayne and Will are here." He wakes with a start and has trouble adjusting his eyes."Momma!" I hear a squeal from the door way. Wayne was standing in the door holding a very happy toddler waving a bouquet of flowers that looked like it had been dropped a few times. But it was still the most beautiful bouquet I had ever scene.
"How you feeling kiddo." Wayne asks setting Will
To the ground, and the toddler sprints over
To climb into Eddie's lap."Tired but happy."
"Well I'm glad everything turned out ok." He said sitting on the edge of the bed looking down at the baby.
"She is the prettiest baby I have ever seen.""Would you like hold her?" I ask and he smiles and nods. Handing the child over I could feel how nervous he was.
"She's so tiny." He says. Will took the opportunity to cuddle up on my lap. Nuzzling his cheeks and placing lots of kisses on them. I had missed him. It was the first and longest time we had spent away from each other. His giggles where music to my hears.
"Mommy missed you." I tell him squeezing him tight.
"Me too!" He says squeezing me back.
"Do you want to see your sister?" I ask him looking unsure I point to the bundle of blankets in Wayne's arms, and he stretches his neck to get a peak, looking back at me he asks "sissy?"
"Yes sissy." Wayne places the baby back in my arms."You two did good." He discreetly wipes a tear.
"Have you two finally settled on a name?" He asks.We had gone back and forth the entire pregnancy never being able to settle on a name for either boy or girl. But in those wee hours in the morning after she was born Eddie asked for one name. He wanted something important to him. To his family. To the man that had raised him. The minute he told me it just seemed so right. A name that was meant for her. Any other name hadn't felt right.
"We have a name. But only if it is alright with you." Eddie said putting his hand on Wayne's shoulder. The older man looked confused.
"We would like to name her Lacey." I could see Wayne chin start to wobble, he stood up quickly and pulled Eddie into a hug.
Lacey was Wayne's wife that had died in a car accident when Eddie was four. She was the love of Wayne's, he had never even dated after she passed.
"Of course. Of course you can use it." Eddie patted his back.
"I wanted to thank you for being such a good dad to me. Teaching me to be a dad to my kids. Besides Cara wouldn't let me name her Wayne." Eddie joked.
"It's a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. And she would be happy to share a name with your little girl."
Lacey, our beautiful little girl, i stared down on her, my finger gently playing with the brown tuft of hair that popping out from underneath her hat. The same Color as her fathers. He says she doesn't see it but to me. She is his mini me.
Welcome to the world sweet girl, you are so very loved.
