Chapter Eleven

We continued our way down the alley way, Deklan tightly gripping onto my hand more and more strongly. I tried to shake his hand off lightly but had no luck, Deklan was in a serious mood and there was no coming back from that.

T: Deklan!

He didn't respond to me, and I couldn't get his words out of my head "The time is right now and the place, down the end of this street!" I looked ahead of me to the end of the street. It was like one of the typical sketchy alleyways, the dumpster, graffiti, the brick walls that were low-income offices by day... My instincts told me to run away but my heart told me to trust Deklan and that was a dangerous contrast in intuitions.

Deklan eventually slowed down as we got towards the end of the street, if I was here alone, I would feel really unsafe but with Deklan by my side I felt invincible. My thought, as usual, overtook me and I wasn't sure if I should initiate some conversation or let this interaction take its course.

Deklan let go of my hand as soon as we got to the end of the alley way

T: Deklan-

I lowered my tone and looked up into his eyes, through the minimal light shown in the lamp post. He was pissed. I didn't know whether he was pissed at me, what I had said, what I had done? He interrupted my intrusive thoughts-

D: You just don't get it do you?

D: All this, all this is to protect you

T: Deklan, how am I meant to trust all this bullshit when you literally kidnapped me

Deklan stood there, as if he was trying to calm down, usually I would have felt sympathetic for him and backed down but enough was enough and he had been stringing me on for too long!

T: Exactly! You can't even respond because there is no fucking response to something like that! None of this was for me.

Deklan crossed his arms over his chest

D: None of this was for you, huh?

D: NONE OF THIS WAS FOR YOU?!
D: Everything that I have done has been for your sorry ass

D: and YOU! Can't even give me a single break!
D: You want to know the truth, Tianah? Well, you aren't going to fucking like it

I stood there dumbfounded, I started shaking, I wasn't sure if it was cold or because I was scared. I didn't want Deklan to notice but I was sure that he had, he stopped raising his voice.

D: Tianah, if you truly want to know, I can tell you... but take my word for it- you aren't going to like what you hear

I thought about it thoroughly for a minute...

T: I need to know.

Deklan and I looked into each other's eyes for a minute, our bodies locked in place adjacent to one another.

D: Fine, it'll take a little while though, so stand tight.

Deklan began telling me every little detail of his plan, I don't want to bore myself with remembering the details but here are the key points;

D:

- I am in a gang

- My gang caught you stealing weed from their suppliers (I will explain this one later, oops)

- I was sent to murder you; I didn't realise it was you

- I want to overthrow my gang leader to escape the lifestyle and keep you safe

T: Oh, my goodness...

We once again, just looked at each other, I was speechless...

Deklan had just spent around an hour telling me his whole backstory and meanwhile I was angry at him for what he had done. I felt awful, and really really guilty.

My impulses took over and I rushed over to Deklan and tightly embraced him, he was carrying so much weight on his shoulders and it was all for my safety. I wrapped my arms around his waist and tightened my grasp in an attempt to comfort him.

T: I'm sorry I said while continuing to hold him in a tight embrace

Deklan sort of returned the gesture and placed his right arm around my lower bag.

D: Yeah, its whatever
I was silent, and so was he. The silence spoke wonders and everything was beginning to come in full circles.

T: What now, Deklan?

D: That is a good question, Tianah

The wind was no where to be seen or felt and in this moment it was just him and I. Deklan was just as unsure as me and it made me feel comfort in the fact we were both lost, together. Of course, we had leads on the ice cream guy but- where was that going to get us when there's only the two of us?
