Although the hotel room you're surveilling is just one story and a few hundred metres across the car park from ye, the thick film of fog makes it next to impossible to see a thing.
Your binoculars help minutely and the rest of the team are split up into two surveillance vans across from the hotel so all bases are covered, but the knowledge does little to ease your nerves - and it definitely doesn't soothe Chris's.
"I don't like this." She states flatly, picking at a loose thread on her jumper where she sits cross-legged on the creaky single bed in the middle of the room.
You scoff, moving your desk chair back far enough so you can kick your legs up onto the worn wooden desk and set your binoculars down on the desktop. "You don't like anything about stakeouts."
"Not true." She shakes her head, shuffling through the different papers and files spread out in front of her and shooting you a grin over them. "Company's not so bad."
That earns her an eyeroll. "That, and the paid overtime?"
"Sure helps." She climbs off the bed and strides over to you, snatching the binoculars from off the table and pushing your legs aside so she can look out the window and see the view for herself.
