Chris's cousin Tomas is the one who lets you in to the house, with just as big of a smile and a hug as you've come to expect from all of Chris' family. Knowing her family as well as you do, your understood her decision to pick the family home as her place to get ready for your wedding day - and you also understood her apprehension, knowing they were likely to go a little bit above board on their niece's big day.
That suspicion is proven as you and Tomas carefully pick your way through the mountains of wedding preparations, from trays of food to extra centre pieces and decorations towards the bedroom where you've been told you'll find her.
Peeking inside the door, you're immediately greeted with the side of your bride. But instead of being in the midst of getting ready for the upcoming ceremony, she's wrapped up in bed with a furious fever and red-rimmed eyes that widen in surprise when she sees you.
"You're not meant to see my dress yet." She croaks out through a smile as you shut the door and pad over to her. The dress in question hangs on the rail at the other side of the room and even as you try your best to avoid looking at it, you find it to be just as beautiful as everyone's described it to you.
"I think we're a little past that, Chris." You say as you sit next to her on the bed, taking one of her hands into yours to raise it to your lips for a kiss. "How are you feeling?"
"Not too great." It's an understatement and you both know it, but on today of all days you won't pick a row over it. "You don't need to be here, baby, I'm sure once I sleep it off I'll be fine."
It's just gone six in the morning and the ceremony isn't scheduled to start till the evening, so time is no question in your mind. You just know you'd much rather spend that time by her side, than anywhere else.
"In sickness and in health, remember?" You tell her, watching her whole face soften at your words. Her hands seek out the band on your left hand, fingers soothing over the diamond laid into the delicate ring as though she's trying to ramify for herself that this is all really come true. "I know we technically haven't said the vows yet, but I plan on sticking to them regardless."
She pulls you in for a kiss that she tactfully lays to your cheek. Through a laugh you return the favour and cupping her hot face in your hands, press a kiss to her forehead.
You slip under the covers to sit next to her, and she lays her head on her shoulder as she wraps her arms around you. You sit in silence for a beat, the tenderness and loving nature of the moment overwhelming you both.
"I can't wait to call myself your wife." Her voice is small, not in a way that sounds unsure but in one that sounds like she's been holding it in for a while.
"We don't have long left to wait." You hold her tight, smoothing her hair back from her face as you kiss the crown of her head. She returns the bright smile that you give her, and you want nothing more than to be able to marry her right here in this moment.
