When you wake, it takes you a few seconds to to grow fully aware of your surroundings. It's pitch black out and rain hammers down on the house from all sides, filling the house with its noise as you let out a groan and roll over to move closer to Chris.

It's only when you feel around to be met with warm sheets that you realise she's not there, and a bolt of anxiety shoots down your spine. Casting a groggy look over your shoulder to the en suite, you find the door's ajar but the lights are off so she's not in there.

The digital clock in her nightstand tells you it's just past two in the morning so there isn't many a reason you can think of in your half-asleep state, so you're left scratching your head as you sit up in bed until you hear a thud coming from down the hall. When it's quickly followed by a lit rant of swear words uttered in a familiar voice, you're able to breathe a sigh of relief.

The bedroom floor is cold against your feet as you climb out of bed. Making your way out of the room and down the hall, you can hear the TV playing softly from down in the living room. You turn a corner into the room to be greeted with the sight of Chris curled up amidst a nest of blankets on the couch with her head propped up by her hand, only for her head to snap to your direction when she hears you coming.

"Christ, baby." She exclaims, smiling as you make your way over to her. "You scared the life out of me."

"I could say the same." You shoot back as she shifts to make room for you on the sofa and you sit next to her. "What are you doing up?"

"Couldn't sleep." She tells you, dialling down the volume on the TV so you can hear one another. She shrugs as she speaks, making you frown. "I didn't wanna keep you up tossing and turning all night."

"You know I never mind it." You say as you cross your legs under one another, and she reaches out to rub your leg gently.

"I do." She smiles, laying her head on the back of the sofa. "But you need sleep, and you weren't going to get it with me next to you."

"A bold assumption." That makes her laugh, and with her head thrown back she doesn't see you slipping under the blankets to sidle up next to you until you're sitting right next to her.

"What are you doing?" She asks confusedly, eyes flickering to the wallclock and back to you.

"Doesn't look like you're going back to bed anytime soon." You say, looping your arm with hers and laying your head on her shoulder."So I don't think I will, either."

"Pest." She calls you, but you can hear the smile in her voice. She shifts the blankets so they're evenly distributed across your lap too, and turns up the TV again as the two of you settle in. Only ten minutes passes before you feel Chris grown sock beside you, and her head lolls to rest against the top of yours as she falls asleep.
