As uncomfortable as she looks, laden with bandages and IV's that cover every part of her that's laying above the scratchy hospital blanket, this is easily the most peaceful you've seen Chris look all day.

Her chest rises and falls steadily, in time with the beeps of the heart monitor next to her. It's going on two hours of her laying sound asleep like this, for which you're grateful - even if it's now just past two in the morning, and you're running off four hours of sleep from the previous night.

Each minute shift within the confines of your creaky hospital chair has your back screaming at you with stiffness. A line of empty coffee cups adorns the windowsill behind you, but the caffeine kick that the burnt coffee gave you has long since worn off. Still, you've no intention of leaving the hospital unless Chris is leaving with you - so you're most definitely in this for the long haul.

The corridors are quiet at this hour, with only a handful of nurses on their rounds passing by every now and then. The thought crosses your mind that now would be as good a time as any to go and wake yourself up a bit with a walk down the hallway, and you decide to go and do it before you've time to talk yourself out of it.

Rising from your seat, you pad gingerly across the room so as to not wake her. Your hand is only just after landing on the doorknob when you're stopped in your tracks by a deep exhale coming from behind you, and a scratchy voice calling out to you softly. "Hey, wait up."

Cringing internally, you turn on your heel and meet her with an apologetic look. As beat up as she is, her humoured smile is as bright as ever as she gingerly sits upright and beckons you over with her one good hand.

"Sorry." You tell her meekly as you walk back to her bedside. The thin metal railings on the side of her bed are cool under your touch as you wring your hands into them, and start to smile under her full attention. "I thought you were out for the count."

"And you took that as your sign to slip out?" She asks, brow arched in an unimpressed manner as she folds her arms over her stomach, and relaxes a little into the stiff hospital mattress. "That's cold, even for you."

"Oh, shush." You chastise her lightly, to which she laughs. Skirting around the foot of her bed, you settle back into your chair and show her a soft smile as you lean forward with a hand on the rail. "After I bored you to sleep, I figured it was my cue to depart."

She makes a noise of disagreement as she lowers her eyes. Reaching out, she puts her hand over yours and brushes her bruised fingers over your knuckles as she smiles.

"Please, you know I'd just tell you it straight-up." She would and you know it, and the notion makes you smile. A beat passes before she speaks again, and this time she sounds a little more unsure of herself as she looks to you with widened eyes. "But really, can you stay with me? Please?"

"Of course I will." You don't hesitate for even a second, and it relaxes her. Chris thanks you softly under her breath, and shows you a smile of her own as you lean in and press a sweet kiss to her forehead.
