2x13: Daddy Issues

"Well, you seem to be enjoying that a lot." Caroline spoke in amusement as she watched her cousin.

Vanessa gave the blonde a sarcastic smile, before she continued to enjoy the hamburger that was almost fully gone in her hand. Caroline began to laugh in amusement, causing Vanessa to join in with her as she rocked Zara gently in her carrycot.

The two were hanging out at the Mystic Grill with one another, having some time on their own, away from the doppelganger and any drama that was currently surrounding or happening in Mystic Falls. 

It had been a while since the brunette and blonde spent time with one another, as things had gotten in the way; Elena's safety, Vanessa meeting both Elijah and Henrik and the planning of killing Klaus when he got into Mystic Falls.

Of course, nobody but Vanessa knew that the agreement between the Salvatore brothers and the suited Original was fake, and would be broken the second Klaus broke his curse. The brunette wanted to be honest with her cousin, but she couldn't be certain that the blonde would be able to keep it a secret to Elena and the Salvatores.

"So, Tyler's pretty mad at you." Vanessa brought up, starting up a new conversation.

The two of them were approached by Tyler that morning as they were leaving the Forbes residence. He cornered the blonde vampire, trapping her into telling him what happened with Mason Lockwood; both Vanessa and Caroline were confused as to who told the werewolf the truth, but he refused to tell them the truth about who told him. 

In the end, he pushed the blonde into her car angrily before shouting at her. Vanessa watched irritated as the werewolf regained some of his composure and let her go before walking off, leaving the blonde vampire heartbroken.

Caroline sighed and nodded as she looked at her plate grumpily. "Do you blame him? I kept Mason's death from him."

"You couldn't tell him about Mason's death, without selling Stefan and Damon out as the vampires that killed him." Vanessa reminded her.

While she honestly didn't give more than two shits about the older Salvatore brother, she still cared about Stefan; the younger Salvatore actually thought about people's feelings and not just of those he was either falling in love with or close to, like Damon.

"I know." Caroline muttered, using her fork to push her pasta around on her place in front of her.

"So, don't beat yourself up, then. He'll forgive you." Vanessa continued, reaching over and grabbing her hand comfortingly.

"How can you be so sure, Nessa? How do you know that he'll forgive me for covering up his werewolf uncle's death?" Caroline asked, quickly as she rambled on. "How do you know that we'll actually be able to become friends once again?"

"Care, I just know okay."

Caroline took a deep breath, calming her rambling for a second as she thought about what her cousin was saying. She just smiled softly at Vanessa, who continued to hold her hand in comfort.
