CHAPTER ONE: 𝗜'𝗩𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨

BEING back in Minnesota felt surreal for Sophie. Last time she was in the state was after the Goodwill Games. Her and the team were still on the high of winning the international championship and spent their last few days as a full team hanging around Minneapolis before the players from out of town returned home.

After the team returned to their respective towns, the girl had gone through a rough patch. Sophie had grown so close to her team, especially Dean, Adam, Charlie, and Russ, that she forgot what her life was without them. When she got home and no longer had her friends or brother, she didn't know what to do with herself. She of course had Kenny but even he was feeling the exact same way she was.

And then Dominic passed away. The two didn't talk much after Sophie and Julie going to set and being in an episode of Roundhouse as they were both incredibly busy, but they checked in occasionally, until the girl saw on the news he had passed away. She had locked herself in her room the rest of the day and the next day Kenny was barely able to coax her out of her room. It took her awhile, but she eventually began to heal.

Now almost a year later and she was happy again. Her and the Ducks had all received scholarships to Eden Hall for hockey. When they were younger and before their parent's divorce, Fulton was promised a football scholarship to the high school and Sophie an academic scholarship. It hadn't originally worked out since Fulton quit football and began playing hockey and Sophie moved out of state.

But it worked out in the end, and they were both about to start at the prestigious prep school.

Oh, and to top things off, Sophie realized she loved Dean and had no idea what to do about it. Well, other than pretend the realization never happened.

Sophie sighed as she leaned back in her seat. She was waiting at the airport for Dean's plane to get it as well as Kenny's. The girl had flown out to Minnesota early to spend Averman's birthday with everyone on the team that could make it. Kenny had a family reunion to go to and Dean's parents wouldn't let him miss his grandparent's anniversary.

During the time that the team was apart, Sophie and Averman had grown closer. When she was going through hard times and Kenny or Dean weren't available, Averman was the one on the phone with Sophie, telling her jokes and cheering her up. She appreciated the boy's humor and was thankful for his invite to his birthday as she needed out of the house. He even let her stay at his place while she was in town so that she wouldn't have to stay with her father.

The girl was nervous to see Dean today. The pair had an argument a couple days prior due to a miscommunication. They were both short tempered people and it was something that they both had to work on. When they were both in the same city, they worked perfectly together, and they didn't have any issues. But the moment they were in different parts of the country they couldn't seem to stay on the same page. Hell, at times it was like they were reading different books.

She inhaled a deep breath as she cracked her knuckles against her thigh in an attempt to relieve some of her nerves. This didn't work however and hearing someone right next to her ear made her even more anxious.

"I was hoping you had grown out of that."

Sophie jumped in her seat, grabbing onto the guy's collar to come face to face with Dean Portman.
