SUNLIGHT shined in Sophie's eyes as she walked with the other Ducks that were staying in dorms. She tugged lightly on her the sleeves of her white long sleeve as she rethought her outfit for the tenth time before they had even gotten to the start of the year ceremony. As she dropped her arms back to her sides, Kenny grabbed her pinky finger with his own, swinging their hands for a few seconds before letting them rest at their sides.

Sophie looked over to her best friend, giving him a small smile as she stuck her other hand in the back pocket of her jeans. She looked to her left and smiled at Dwayne who was giving her a worried look.

"You know, I think this place is running very low on the brother's quotient," Russ said as the group of six walked through the school grounds.

"Yeah," Julie agreed as they all looked around. "Hey, I want to know who this new Coach Orion is. My dad said that if I didn't like him, I could come right home."

Sophie raised an eyebrow at this but ignored it otherwise. She didn't care who their coach was at this point. She just wanted to play hockey with her friends.

"That's nice," Russ almost laughed. "My dad said I better stay in on scholarship or he'll whip my butt."

"My mom said something like that," Sophie added with a snort.

Her mom had been joking and the girl knew that but still Sophie didn't want to chance anything.

"You know, I heard in the dorm that the guy played for the Minnesota North Stars and got suspended for punching out his own coach," Luis spoke up from behind the others.

"You mean the Dallas Stars," Dwayne looked over to Luis. "I heard he punched out a fan."

Sophie wanted to laugh at all these rumors the boys had heard. Personally, she didn't believe any of them but maybe that was just her not wanting to judge people she didn't know.

"I heard he was a Buddhist," Julie joked as she butted in. "You know, like Kung Fu or Richard Gere."

"Kung Fu wasn't a Buddhist," Kenny corrected the blonde. "He was a Trappist monk."

"Are you talking about the old Kung Fu or the Further Adventures of the New Kung Fu?" Russ was quick to question.

"Y'all watch too much TV," Dwayne told Russ.

"Shoot, that's the safest thing to do in my hood," Russ said as the group stopped to observe some protesting students.

Sophie watched for a moment before she felt a tug on her arm as someone called her by her last name. She turned to see Carter smiling at her as he started to shove his hands in his varsity baseball jacket. The girl smiled back at the boy as she gave him her full attention.

"Hey Garcia. What's up?"

"Nothing much," the boy shrugged as his smile turned into a lazy grin. "I came to see you for three reasons. Firstly, you look lovely today."

"Thank you," the girl chuckled a little as she rested both her hands in her back pockets. "As do you."

The blonde thanked her before going back to what he was saying.

"Second reason I'm here, I was wondering if you're friend was here yet?"

"No not yet," Sophie informed the boy who frowned at the news. "All our team who don't stay in dorms are skating here together. They promised they'd be early but knowing the others they're going to be late. How about your friend? Is he here?"
