Short chapter ahead!!
A single beep sound from the old stopwatch wrapped around (Y/n)'s cool palm after they had clicked on the partially-broken button embedded into its side, making sure to apply double the pressure with their thumb to make sure the button did its function. Their eyes brightened upon reading the digits displayed on the timing machine's screen the sides of their lips twisting into a pleased grin as their eyes trailed up from the device.
"12 minutes and 36 seconds. Impressive." Their eyes fell on Touya, an exhausted and panting Touya. His huffs came out as hoarse wheezes. His clothes stuck to his body due to the sheer gallons of sweat his skin was excreting. But despite his shriveled state, he managed to shakingly lift his head up to meet (Y/n)'s proud stare.
"You managed to make such great progress in just 2 weeks. Didn't think it was possible for someone to get fit so quickly when their body was the equivalent of a stick." They teased.
"Hey...!" He weakly retorted. He let out a final pant and straightened his posture, a menacing scowl on his face in an attempt to intimidate the high-expectation caregiver, which clearly proved ineffective.
"Mark my words, Mx (Y/n)!" He pointed at them.
" Mx (Y/n)?" They lifted a brow.
"One day, I'll beat you, and I'll be so much faster than you, you'll cry yourself to sleep!" He threatened. (Y/n) blinked at him, then barked out a booming laugh, their arms wrapping around their stomach.
"Oh, the vast imagination of a child, so cute and innocent." They wiped an invisible tear with their finger and crouched down to meet Touya's level, a mocking smile stretched across their face. "But I'm afraid, no one is better than the original. No one."
They flicked his forehead. Touya jerked back with an annoyed squirm, his eyebrows knitting together in evident frustration, but he was far too exhausted to put up a fight.
"But on a serious note, your progress can't go unrewarded, now can it?" They said, ruffling his hair.
"Really!?" He beamed at them. "It better not be another boring book."
"What's wrong with books? reading is important. It reduces stress and increases communication skills." They lifted a brow at him, only to receive an annoyed scowl in return. "But don't worry, I won't get you another book." Touya's frown shifted into a delighted stare. Gazing down at the boy, (Y/n) couldn't help but chuckle at the swift expression switch, amused by how easy it was to please him.
They turned their back to him and crouched down unannounced, their arms stretched back as if reaching for something. They glanced over their shoulder and at Touya, cracking an almost ghostly grin.
"Come on, let's go home." They spoke. Touya's grin stretched beyond limits, his face brightening at their invitation, so much so that for a moment, (Y/n) feared that they might go blind. (Y/n) was often hard on him, and pushed him a lot, often denying him any assistance unless he was at risk of being injured, so it was a great deal to Touya when the oh-so-stone-hearted caregiver offered such a kind gesture.
Touya wasted no time before pouncing on their back, receiving a wheezing 'OUFF' from (Y/n). His arms tightened around their neck as his cheek squished into the side of their face with joy.
They stood up and made their way down the mountain, masking their grin with an exasperated huff.
