okkotsu always wondered what would have happened if he never joined jujutsu tech. but now, more than ever, he truly wished that he never came. maybe... maybe it was better to let the higher-ups just execute him.

lives wouldn't have been lost like this. she wouldn't have lost her life like this if he wasn't around. with the news of amaya's state, okkotsu couldn't help but blame himself for it all.

'you did this to her'

'you should've died instead'

'you're the worst'

'you can't be forgiven'

all of okkotsu's thoughts were a raging storm inside of his mind. he felt like a fool, thinking that he could be happy. the moment he found something good, it was ripped away from him.

"no," the boy gripped his head and muttered to himself, "you ruined it. you... it's all..."

okkotsu froze when the door to amaya's hospital room suddenly slid open. he slowly brought his eyes to megumi, who wore an emotionless expression. he's been that way since they figured out amaya was brain dead. that was two hours ago.

the fifteen year old had it the hardest. gojo and ieiri gave megumi the final choice because he was amaya's only conscious relative left. although he was young, he was mature enough to make a decision.

no matter what, they would have to put amaya to rest. there is no point of return for someone diagnosed with brain death. the machines that were keeping amaya alive could only do its job for so long.

"the sooner you choose, the better. it's better to let her rest as soon as she can. prolonging her physical death will only hurt more."

'but this hurts enough'

for megumi, all he needed to do is choose when to finally let his older sister go. but, it was harder than it sounded. her life, the one of her physical body anyway, was left in his hands.

"i'm sorry..." okkotsu suddenly apologized. megumi watched his senior shakily bow.

"that's what everyone will say. i know that already," he shortly stated.

"no, not about that. what happened with amaya... it's my fault." okkotsu stood up and looked down at his hand. "we were together when geto attacked the school. i let her go alone... i thought she'd find an auxiliary manager, but she ran into geto instead. even if i defeated him, he still injured her enough to..."

"even if i had been able to use my reverse cursed technique sooner, amaya's condition would probably stay the same. her head injuries... they were bad. the bleeding wasn't easy to stop. "

"...to leave her like this no matter what. i couldn't protect her at all. i-i should die for what i've done. i'm sorry..."

"do you think sorries will bring her back?" megumi bluntly asked. "no, that's the wrong question to ask. tell me, do you seriously think that she would let you protect her in that situation? that she would let you stand in front and get hurt like she did?"
