Tripping into my heart

"You two know each other?" Rick asks me, wrangling up his little sailor and setting her in front of the television to watch cartoons. My stomach hurt from the embarrassment of cursing in front of them and I tried to wipe away the redness in my face with my hands.

"We met at the bar" Daryl says with a smirk on his face before giving me a wink.

"Briefly" I scoff, crossing my arms. After knowing Daryl for only a few hours I could already see how he treated his women and I didn't want Rick to think I would stoop down to that sort of level. "I was done singing for the night."

"I bought her a drink." Daryl counters. "that pinkish reddish thing.. Oh what the hell is it called... Strawberry Daiquiri!"

Rick raised an eyebrow and gave me a playful smile. "I see." He says, barely able to keep his laughter in.

I breather out a sigh of frustration before standing up straight. "Get out, both of you! Go do what you came to do instead of picking on an innocent girl."

"Innocent my ass." I hear Daryl mutter under his breath.

"Excuse me?"

His eyes meet mine. "Nothing sweetheart. I said the time is gonna pass that's all."

"That's what I thought!" I say, glaring at them. They were both laughing. I shoved them gently towards the door. Taking another step my foot was caught on one of Judith's toys. I was thrown forward and I braced myself for the impact.

Strong arms wrapped around my small waist. "Gotcha Sweetheart." Daryl says, lifting me up and setting me gently back down on my feet.

"Thanks." I say, tucking a stray piece of hair behind my ear. My heart thumped violently inside my chest and I couldn't determine whether or not it was from the near experience of smacking my face into the ground, or the lingering warmth of Daryl's rough hands on my waist.
